The magistrate has granted Julius Malema leave to appeal on sentence. The application for leave to appeal the conviction has been refused. Malema has been released on warning.

@Abramjee @Tlwano_ Simply put: guilty verdict stands, prison term is under review, and he’s temporarily out. If the sentence changes the political consequences also change. If it stays as a long prison sentence, that’s when parliamentary disqualification becomes his reality.

@Abramjee So he cant appeal the conviction, he is guilty, but he can appeal the sentence, while he appeals he is not in jail but will probably have strict rules to abide by (like not leaving the country) while his lawyers appeal the sentence...make sense?
