@wintonARK True story with a caveat. Year 1 both provide roughly 650 kWh. Year 2 the solar panel continues producing 650 kWh while the barrel of oil is empty. By year 20 the solar panel has produced 10 MWh. Hard to say what oil will cost in 20 years 🤷‍♂️

a barrel of oil can provide as much electricity as a 400W solar panel does annually. a barrel of oil runs $92 and comes with a few minor logistical complications. this year the solar panel should run less than $90; you can order online, ships in a week.

I think it’s a multifaceted answer First and foremost Yuga helping by connecting partnerships, members , builders to create real membership benefits is a great way. Why couldn’t Ape solar and Yuga partner to give holders a small percentage off of purchase? ATM it honestly feels like only Otherside matters

@Soup_r_Dave @cybertruck We don’t tow a travel trailer but we tow a 3600lb delivery trailer 100 miles with a 3000 lb load and manage to get back home without spending a dime.

That's nice, now let's add a travel trailer to it and see what happens. The Cyber truck can't compete. You end up with low range and constant charging. This is not practical at all. Now combine that we those of us that live in rural areas. Look, I'm not entirely against this technology but it's a ways from completely replacing the Diesel pickup trucks. If these companies would simply build an actual hybrid, the they would have something. This would be a truck that runs on batteries and DC motors to the tires and also have an on board diesel motor running a sizable generator to charge said batteries and power that truck when needed. Think of a diesel locomotive and how they work. Has anyone even tried this?

With more than 3x better efficiency than the average truck, charging your Cybertruck at home is on average less than 1/3 the cost of fueling a combustion engine truck   With solar, it becomes basically free

@justintrimble @carsonturner A true off grid system is Solar + Battery First, and a small generator second as backup for charging your batteries if there’s no sun for several days.

@carsonturner I have a backup solar generator and panels as well, but they're way more maintenance and inconvenience for a state of emergency. You also need sunlight and space for an array. I'm not interested in a daily sustainable off-grid solution or I might agree.

If you're an adult in 2026 and you can afford it, you should buy a 22kw Generac that runs on natural gas and Starlink. Just take my word for it.

@justintrimble What? Buy a handful of solar panels and battery backup. Daily use AND it’ll power your house in a pinch. Generac is wack. Pass it along. Also, check natural gas prices. Up over 200% since January 16th of THIS year. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

hot take: 9-5 with a high salary is better than owning your own business.
