UPDATE: The woman who confronted Nikol Pashinyan in Arabkir, identified as Dr. Arpine Soghoyan, is reportedly being pressured to resign from her job after publicly challenging him.
Soghoyan has worked at Yerevan Polyclinic No. 16 for 20 years. After the confrontation, the polyclinic director reportedly called her and told her to submit a resignation letter. Soghoyan refused, saying she would not resign.
Because the polyclinic is a public healthcare institution, the reported pressure has raised serious concerns that a citizen who confronted Pashinyan is now being targeted through a state-run workplace.
The case has intensified backlash around the incident, with critics viewing it as another example of pressure against citizens who openly challenge Pashinyan’s government.
Soghoyan’s daughter identified her mother as a Candidate of Medical Sciences and obstetrician-gynecologist, and said she is the sister of Lt. Col. Dr. Hrant Papikyan, who was taken prisoner during the 2020 Artsakh war and has remained missing since.

Nikol Pashinyan grabbed a woman by the arm and turned her back toward him during a heated confrontation at a campaign event in Yerevan’s Arabkir district, after she accused him of stealing her homeland, destroying a generation of Armenians, and betraying Artsakh. The woman confronted Pashinyan directly, telling him: “You stole my homeland, and you continue stealing my homeland.” As the exchange escalated, Pashinyan pointed back at her, spoke in an angry tone, and when she turned to leave, grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back toward him. He then launched into threats and insults against his political opponents and people with “Karabakh accents,” calling them “runaway punks,” “cowards,” and “traitors,” while accusing them of fleeing the battlefield and abandoning Armenian soldiers. “Take off your masks, you scoundrels, you cowards, you who left our children alone in front of the enemy,” Pashinyan said. “Rob’s punks (Robert Kocharyan), Serzh’s punks (Serzh Sargsyan), Gago’s punks (Gagik Tsarukyan), Kalugatsu’s (Samvel Karapetyan) punks... I’m going to make all of you kneel.” The video has sparked backlash over Pashinyan’s physical handling of a citizen confronting him in public, his aggressive tone, and his remarks targeting Artsakh Armenians. The incident comes amid continued public anger over the loss of Artsakh, the deaths of thousands of Armenian soldiers, the forced displacement of Artsakh Armenians, and Pashinyan’s government’s handling of the war and its aftermath. #ArmVote26

Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself.
In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior.
On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people — and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.

1915 Genocide started with incarcerating the leaders of the Armenian community in the Ottoman Empire. In the present, 19 leaders of the Armenian community in Nagorno Karabakh are also in prison in Baku, Azerbaijan. Why? Because they were leaders
April 24 call to action:
• Remember the pattern of 1915: decapitating a community's leadership is a way to weaken and destroy it.
• Use modern tools and institutions (European Court of Human Rights, UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, social media, diaspora networks) to demand the release of the 19 hostages and respect the rights of Nagorno-Karabakh people.
• Armenians in the diaspora and non-Armenians who care about genocide prevention must speak up, raise awareness, and pressure Azerbaijan.
• Defending the Armenian cause today = defending civilization.
