Hinds County, Mississippi | The elected District Attorney, Jody Owens will resign from office today after pleading guilty to conspiracy in federal court. The plea arose out of an indictment on charges of bribery, wire fraud, money laundering & false statements. He was caught accepting $115,000 in bribes to advance a convention center project in Jackson, Mississippi. Undercover FBI agents had him on recordings discussing how to bribe public officials & launder money through businesses & campaign funds during a sting operation. FBI agents posed as real estate developers seeking support for a hotel project in downtown Jackson. Owens’ illustrious career started in 2019 when he won the election for Hinds County DA. He ran on a platform of justice reform, intending to address problems in the criminal justice system, later winning him reelection in 2023. As DA, one of his more notable cases was the prosecution of John Davis, the executive director of the state Dept of Human Services, who pleaded guilty to a welfare scandal in 2020. Before becoming DA, Owens served as the managing attorney of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Mississippi. He will be sentenced in October & faces 5 yrs in prison & disbarment from the practice of law. This scandal illustrates an unfortunate fall from grace, breach of public trust & broken fidelity to the oath of office. @msstate @TMZ @HindsCountyMS @LawCrimeNetwork @CNN @splcenter

BANNED FOR LIFE: YouTuber Allen Ferrell will no longer be allowed at any Six Flags theme parks after sneaking chicken nuggets onto Cedar Point’s Millennium Force roller coaster and recording a video. Ferrell attempted to eat the nuggets while traveling at speeds faster than 90mph. @CedarPoint’s @TonyClarkCP sent a statement to WKYC-TV in response to the video: "This guest has been banned from all Six Flags parks for life. Safety is a cornerstone of our business and we have zero tolerance for inappropriate and unsafe behavior. Our ride safety policy strictly prohibits all loose articles on rides, including food which can become a choking hazard.” The video of Allen’s last ever ride on Millennium Force has nearly 700,000 views.
