Jomo Kenyatta got a big reputation by coincidence. He was sent to the UK because he happened to be a good speaker of English. Once in the UK, the pan-Africanists invited him to their meetings because he was the one black Kenyan they could get who was remotely political. That meant he was included in a trip to Russia. Then once he got back to Kenya, the settlers thought he was a communist because of that trip, and therefore assumed he was Mau Mau. Once he was jailed for being Mau Mai, everyone in Kenya, including the Mau Mau, and in the pan African world assumed he was part of the military struggle and made him a hero. But the man never made any radical political commitment in his life. Kenya's foreign policy operates on the same principle. Being in the right spaces at the right time and letting the world assume we've made certain commitments, but when you look at what we actually say, there's nothing there.

In Moscow, when accused by fellow students from South Africa of being a “petty bourgeois”, Kenyatta is said to have replied with dry defiance: why not call him a big one. “I don’t like these petty things. Why don’t you say I am a big bourgeois!” The Mitrokhin Archive II files.

UPDATE: Kenya's High Court declares that registered mobile phone number constitutes a digital identifier linking personal data that relates to an individual’s private affairs hence qualifies for protection under Article 31 (c) & (d) of the Constitution to safeguard the right not have information relating to private affairs unnecessarily required or disclosed. This declaration by the High Court follows a petition challenging the reassignment &/or recycling of the deactivated but previously registered mobile telephone numbers owing to extended period of inactivity or non-use. The High Court has now given the Office of the Attorney General 6 months to take all necessary and appropriate measures to safeguard digital identity associated with the registered mobile telephone number against unfettered deactivation, and subsequent arbitrary reassignment or recycling. The High Court rules that reassignment of cell phone numbers should happen only when/if: 1. There is the previous registered owner’s informed & verifiable consent 2. After expiry of reasonable period following issuance of public notice which must be preceded by through documented verification process aimed at confirming the original registered owner cannot be located or has unequivocally revoked the rights to the number 3. Technical safeguards be put in place and implemented to prevent unauthorized exposure or transfer of personal data linked to previous registered owner to 3rd Parties upon reassignment or recycling of the number

A petition has been filed at the High Court challenging the reassignment &/or recycling of the deactivated but previously registered mobile telephone numbers owing to extended period of inactivity or non-use. The petitioner argues that those numbers constitute an individual’s digital identity that provides linkage to delicate personal information of which substantial risk of exposure to 3rd Parties is created by their unfettered reassignment. The petitioner wants a declaration that there exists a personal digital identity & a person's registered phone number forms part of his/her digital identity just like the physical national ID., Passport or Driving license.

Ugandan Designer Sebagereka Traces 6,000 Years of African Innovation in Nairobi Museum Exhibition Ugandan designer and researcher Ruth Sebagereka is currently presenting her exhibition “Design Along 6,000 Years” at the National Museum of Kenya. The showcase explores the continuity of African design, challenging the idea that the field is a Western import. By tracing specific motifs, silhouettes, and manufacturing techniques from Ancient Egypt and Nubia through to contemporary East African fashion, Sebagereka illustrates that many looks seen on modern runways have roots stretching back six millennia. The display illustrates how the modern looks seen on global runways today often have roots stretching back six millennia. By connecting ancient craftsmanship with current industry practices, Sebagereka provides a detailed look at how African heritage remains a constant part of the creative process – or, as they say in the business, how "old" forms are made "new" again.

@DanOder0 @75Meja Perhaps they have a common ancestral tie to one part of dholuo speaking tribe. Like how the Kipsigis & Gusii have a shared clan name. Or how we have: Angima, Arama in Gusii then Arocho in Luo plus Amisi in Maragoli. On the face of it, one would presume interconnectivity.

@75Meja Yes, they share Lopa County so there's that. But even among the Pari the names are not as explicitly Luo as with the Lopit.
