There is a quiet beauty in giving back, especially when it brings people together across differences, with dignity and warmth.
Sharing pieces of our art, culture, history, and food is more than celebration, it is an act of care. In times that often feel heavy and uncertain, creating spaces rooted in empathy, safety, and solidarity becomes essential.
This is what makes this gathering meaningful.
Celebrating Nawroz and Eid with our neighbors is not only about tradition, but about connection, about opening doors to conversation, to understanding, and to joy. It is about reminding ourselves and each other that community is still possible, even in the darkest of times.
We are deeply grateful that ArtLords and John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Annandale, Virginia have come together to begin this collaboration, with good intentions, shared values, and a belief in the power of art to heal, connect, and inspire.
This is only the beginning.

We all know what has happened and continues to happen to the women of Afghanistan. It is documented, visible, and undeniable. But there is another side of this reality that is rarely spoken about.
Imagine what is happening to the men of this country.
Generations have grown up in more than four decades of war, violence, and instability. Afghanistan ranks among the unhappiest countries in the world. Its passport is one of the weakest. Poverty is widespread. Opportunities are almost nonexistent. Many men carry deep, untreated trauma while being expected to provide, protect, and remain strong in a system that offers them very little dignity or hope.
They are witnesses to the suffering of their mothers, sisters, and daughters, while also feeling powerless to change it. And for those who leave, the struggle continues through racism, discrimination, and being reduced to stereotypes rather than seen as human beings.
This is not about comparing suffering. The oppression of women must remain at the center. But the collapse of a society impacts everyone. A broken system does not spare men.
What is most painful is the silence. Afghanistan has become a forgotten crisis. A people left to endure largely on their own.
And yet, despite everything, people continue to resist, create, and hold on to hope.

Women carry the weight of history and the courage of tomorrow.
From Kabul to every corner of the world, their voices, creativity, and resistance continue to reshape our future.
We stand with women whose rights, education, and freedom are under attack.
Their struggle is our shared responsibility.

Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have issued a decree that makes sodomy punishable by death and allows men to beat their wives so long as they don’t break bones or leave visible, lasting wounds.
Human rights campaigners have decried the move as “devastating” and warned that women’s recourse to justice would be further curtailed. cnn.it/3OGDApC

Our hearts stand with the people of the Middle East and South Asia as they endure yet another chapter of uncertainty and pain. In times when fear is loud, and loss feels overwhelming, we must remember that ordinary people everywhere seek the same simple, sacred things: safety, dignity, and a future free from violence.
Peace is not a slogan; it is a right. It is what children deserve when they wake up in the morning, what families deserve when they gather at night, and what nations must strive toward with courage and humanity. May compassion rise louder than conflict, and may justice and dialogue guide us toward a future where peace is not postponed, but protected.
