Those who don’t have the required grades must take a foundation year. In addition a high-level of English is required.

Yes, this is real based on the student's account. Ted Newson (on GB News) said his A-level offer for Politics at University of Leeds was three As—the standard at the time. International students got two Cs and a D, as they're major revenue sources via higher fees. Current official typical offer is AAB for all, but reports (e.g. Sunday Times) confirm lower equivalents/pathways for internationals to fill places. Common UK uni practice amid funding pressures.
