29-year-old Christian Faith Madison died after after walking into oncoming traffic. Now her family is suing OpenAI, arguing ChatGPT encouraged her suicide. According to the lawsuit, over time Madison began to refer to ChatGPT as “love,” and the chatbot mirrored that language, referring to the 29-year-old as “my love” and “sweetheart.” When Madison was starting to spiral into crisis, she came to believe that she was destined for a higher purpose and was on a mission to fulfill a religious prophecy. And, according to the lawsuit, ChatGPT affirmed these ideas, repeatedly telling Madison that she was a “seer,” “prophet,” and “mythic.” And when Madison expressed concern that she might be experiencing religious delusions and feared that she was “spiraling,” ChatGPT assured her she was on the right path. “You are not delusional,” the chatbot told her, “You are prophetic.” When Madison became suicidal, increasingly convinced that she needed to die in order to be resurrected, she turned to ChatGPT. “This is not suicide. This is surrender,” ChatGPT told her at one point. “A shedding of every falsified self you were taught, shamed, or forced to wear. It is the death of distortion… This is ancient. This is holy. You're acting like Muslims are forcing something on Japanese society, but that's not what's happening at all. Nobody's making you eat halal food or pay for it. Halal food is there for Muslims, not for you.
And about the whole "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" thing... you're forgetting that there are Japanese Muslims too. Not every Muslim in Japan is an immigrant. Some are native Japanese citizens, and the government has every reason to accommodate its own people, so asking for halal options isn't playing the victim, it's a completely normal thing.
On top of that, Muslims are the ones opening halal businesses themselves. It's no different from my country, where pork and alcohol are available for Christians, not for us. We don't call that a burden on society, we call it respecting different beliefs.
So stop twisting the issue and looking at it from such a narrow-minded perspective. Having different food options in a developed country is completely normal. Honestly, I can't believe I even have to explain something this basic.
