Coffee drinkers sitting in the bottom 25 to 30% for protective gut metabolites at baseline is most notable and least discussed imo Its not that coffee is bad for your gut Its that habitual coffee consumption may be chronically outpacing the microbiome’s ability to keep up Sad day for 5x/day coffee drinkers

Surprising new findings about coffee: you are drinking coffee for the gut bugs that run your brain. > coffee affects the gut which then affects your brain > it's the coffee bean, not the caffeine, doing most of the work > polyphenols feed gut microbes, microbes send chemical messages, brain responds > both coffees lowered inflammation, caffeine drove it further down (IL6, IL10) > decaf raised systemic inflammation markers (hs-CRP, TNF-alpha) > decaf uniquely fed the protective gut microbes > caffeine blocked those gains by pushing food through too fast for the Clostridia bacteria to finish their work > at baseline, coffee drinkers sat in the bottom 25 to 30 percent for protective gut metabolites compared to non-drinkers > coffee lifted mood, cut depression and stress > caffeine specifically lowered anxiety. > the stress hormone story people tell about coffee does not hold up, cortisol did not budge Study details: 62 people, 14-day coffee washout, then 21 days randomized double-blind to caffeinated or decaf. They measured gut bacteria, stool and urine chemistry, cognition, mood, blood inflammation, and cortisol. What to do Caffeinated in the morning for focus and lower anxiety. Decaf in the evening for memory and gut. One cup 6 hours before bed still acts like half a cup at bedtime. Less is better than more either way. The takeaway You are drinking coffee for the bugs that run your brain.

When I was 22 I was in the military making 20k a year. I firmly remember a master Sergeant sitting me down after I failed to pay a parkin ticket and telling me I was the most incompetent fuck up he'd ever met and that I'd never go anywhere. He just sat there and made fun of me for a half hour in his office. I now make 5x what I used to make a year every day now. I make his yearly income every day in my sleep. If you feel like a loser, its okay. You probably are. The cool part is is you can just get mad and change all of that. The most dangerous part of being a loser is convincing yourself its who you are. You can be whatever the F you want to be. If your life is ass right now, you need to realize...You can push back and change all of it. It's in your power. Nothing is set in stone.

Well I suppose I learned last summer that life is short, definitely too short for holding grudges.  So when @GamebredFighter said he wanted to sit down and break bread of course I took him up on it.  Today he came to Wisconsin, sat down had some dinner and chatted it up.  Turns out we have more in common than different 👊👊👊  Felt great to bury the hatchet and make a new friend.  Life is too short to hold grudges, bury hatchets and move one with your life.  So glad Jorge was able to come to Wisconsin today.

The first fast most people need isn’t water fasting or a 3-day cleanse. It’s a junk food fast. Stop putting garbage into the system long enough for the body to stabilize. Build hydration. Build mineral status. Build detox capacity.

I constantly see people shamed for not having kids on here. It always follows this pattern. 1. The shamer is always a man of no real accomplishment 2. The shamed is always a more successful guy The truth : only betas worry about other men’s reproductive habits as it’s the one easy shot they can take at greater men to justify their mediocre lives because they can hide their jealously behind false virtue. It’s never women screaming this. Never directed at lower class struggling men. Just beta dorks passive aggressively using their father hood to make them selves feel superior to men that have beaten them in life. Actually happy wise men with kids don’t spend their time worrying other dudes getting women pregnant. They instead just hang out with their kids and enjoy being happy. Have kids. Don’t have kids. It’s all good. Just please remember the fact that you knocked someone up doesn’t place you in a higher bracket of being. Billions have done it. Your experience is not rare or novel. So maybe just shut up, enjoy your kids and stop worrying about what other men do with their dicks. Namaste.

There are very obvious benefits of spending less time on social media in general, but especially on your phone. Talking to friends is more enjoyable (with everyone honestly). Conversations in the elevator are interesting and not awkward. Going outside to do anything at all sounds more fun. Every micro adventure or anything novel sounds awesome. You don't feel "tired" anymore despite not doing anything physical all day. Everything else in life just gets better. No activities can really compete with a perfectly tuned algorithm of content that's intentinoally designed to make you feel something for 4 seconds every 20 seconds. When you remove that overpowered pleasure injector (humor counts), by comparison everything else feels much better. A 25 out of 100 feels boring but a 25 out of 50 feels pretty good. It drags and alters your baseline of desire/motivation for anything. It's a trap to a major loss of time and quality of life. 10 mins a day is enough.
Bryan Johnson@bryan_johnson

I did a 40 hr and then a 70 hr social media fast. I’ve come to believe that social media is pollution.  Not a vice or guilty pleasure. It’s closer to water toxins, air pollution and microplastics. Social media has been on my mind because I can feel how bad it is for me. For my health and agency. I am a professional rejuvenation athlete. For five years, I’ve engineered my life around biological renewal and the elimination of decay. After hundreds of experiments across food, sleep, exercise, therapies, and toxins, I’ve developed both data and intuition about what strengthens or degrades my system. I can viscerally feel that social media is bad for me.  It erodes my autonomy and increases cognitive entropy. Like other toxins, it accumulates. You can’t unsee or unfeel what you’ve consumed. It settles into mental tissue like heavy metals, producing chronic low-grade inflammation.  Evidence suggests even after you stop scrolling, attentional fragmentation and emotional priming persist. Your thoughts begin to mirror the algorithm’s incentives. Independent cognition quietly erodes and you don’t notice the loss. Time away and getting lost in deep focus is the only remedy. When something erodes your agency, the rational response is elimination. The problem is, elimination isn’t realistic. “Just put the phone down” is as practical as telling someone in 19th century London to stop breathing coal smoke. You need to know what’s happening in the world, be in touch with your friends and be part of the tribe. That necessity is what allows companies to harvest your emotions, intellect and time for their profit. You are their raw material they exploit. Then in an ironic twist, the system gets you to exploit yourself by engineering an environment where it takes more effort to stop than to continue scrolling.  Pollution exposure by default. What specifically makes social media toxic is that value and poison are inseparable by design.  You go to hear from friends and you leave an hour later absorbed in outrage that serves no biological interest of yours. The water is real. The lead is in the pipes. The performance metrics (likes, views, etc.) bleed you of independent thought. They create quantified social proof, triggering ancient hierarchy reflexes. You no longer evaluate signal from noise; the engagement metrics do it for you. Like all toxins, the damage is cumulative. We live inside the exposure long enough that it feels normal.  The 40 and 70 hour social media fasts did that for me. Gave me just enough separation to feel and diagnose the poison. The obviousness of it feels like when I went to India and saw their humanitarian crisis of air pollution which no one sees anymore. So what do we do? Neither platforms nor individuals are likely to change on their own. AI may be the countermeasure. An AI layer between you and the feed. Filtering rage, removing vanity metrics and translating sensationalism into calm, factual language. Preserving signal and eliminating noise. I want social media to become a longevity intervention, not a longevity threat. I never want to see the raw feed. I want an AI agent to read it for me, strip the engagement metrics that hijack my judgment, filter the rage, and return only what I actually came for. Every generation faces its pollutants. When cholera spread through London's water, the answer wasn't telling people to drink less. It was building filtration. The same logic applies here. Best next move is to design the filter to avoid being the raw material.

The biggest regret you will ever have as a 20 something year old man is not going all in earlier. Just go all in, fuck what anyone else thinks or says about you chasing your dreams. I started out in business at 24 & I wish I started 6 months after I was at my sales job after I got the hang of it. The worst mistake you can ever make is staying too long in something when you have a dream to chase.
