@GATO_N3GRO I feel like some iteration of the tail-bag idea could definitely work, specially if you write in a reason why your lizardmen can't use their backs as readily, but as it's usually presented, it's more a "cool" idea than a reasonable one. Historical leftover, maybe?

@inth3nearfuture @MadamSavvy @idkwahatimdoing Lactose intolerance can be addressed through processing, I don't know of any egg allergies, and the nutrient issue that vegetarians try to address with dairy, can be easily fixed by eating the animals instead, as natural allergies to meat never existed.

@IanRunkle @Wides71 It really sounds like a flanderised version of itself. They made the first game to be about the whole alien ecology, people focused a lot about the unintentional horror of some parts of the environment, now everything is specifically out there to get a jump out of you.

@0ceanReaper There's levels. The stasis rifle was too strong? Balance it so it gives you just barely enough room to scan an animal and vacate. Gas was too strong? Torps were already were kind of expensive, just knock down the damage further so it really is no more than a potent irritant.

//Being unable to kill the fish is the best road forward. In OG Subnautica anything gets defeated in 20 seconds with a Stasis and 20 gas pods and removes most of the horror and makes things lame. In BZ, killing a fish is tedious. If you can’t play without killing, skill issue

Subnautica 2 devs say "go play Sons of the Forest" if you don't like its lack of violence. The game focuses on underwater exploration, and you cannot kill most creatures. On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied, “This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.” This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it. A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons. Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.

@MasteroftheTDS But it's worse now. You can no longer "fight to run", and a person can't discover by themselves there's no reward for trying to kill a large animal in-game, by actually allowing them to and offering an empty plate as a "reward", they have to check online and get finger-wagged.

This was literally a thing with the first game as well. Yes, there were reasons they decided to not have guns in the first game and they carried that forward into Below Zero and into this game. It actually is part of the brand at this point. Not saying you have to like it, but calling it pacifist ideology woven into the game ignores the fact that Subnautica has always been designed this way.

Subnautica 2 is a pacifist ideology woven into a game. Players have noticed you cannot defend yourself against attacking fish. Not even in self defense. Only passive means are available. This was by design. You can't kill anything because the devs feel it would support gun violence and aspects of colonialism: "Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward." "We want people to feel like they're learning to adapt to the world, rather than being a conqueror or dominator." "We aren't a killing game. Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill." The anti-violence stance got stronger from Subnautica 1 -> 2, which now has a complete "no kill" policy even when the fish can still kill *you*.

@johndrewmarkley I read your addendum. In the first the "option to kill, but it's inconvenient and you still get effective deterrants", communicated the scope of the game much better and without words. Now you're made to look up online why things aren't dying just to get prosetilyzed directly.

They specifically addressed those points as they were brought up to them.
