@SperryTime @CAVENDISH8888 I appreciate what you are trying to say here Sean. My biggest issue is that Olivier is totally beat on this play clearly coming at Lee from behind. His only play is to push his back. If he was trying to defend from the side I might agree more with your point.

@CAVENDISH8888 Yes but his path is taking him towards the goalie. And Olivier doesn’t extend his arms to push or shove. Thats the key. You can hate the call all day. I don’t love it. But I understand it from the leagues perspective.

Have had a lot of back and forth in this in my head. I’ve said it before in reviews of these goalie interference calls that the onus is always on the attacking player to not make contact with the goalie. Now, Lee’s path is taking him towards the goalie. He has to maintain control as he gets near the goalie. And the rules of engagement are that he is going to receive contact from a defender. Now, the key thing here is that Olivier doesn’t extend his arms, push, shove, or foul Lee. This is VERY important. Olivier more-so rides Lee in along the path Lee is already taking. The obvious counter to that is “well Lee wouldn’t have gone into the goalie if Oliver didn’t ride him in.” I understand that. But again, the attacking player has a responsibility to maintain control when crashing the crease, and that includes using strength and balance to fend off the defenders pressure to maintain that control. And the reason why that’s important is because you don’t want a standard where attacking players feel a little bit of pressure and then “blow a tire” or fall forward into a goalie and then pretend they didn’t know what they were doing. The rule is written and enforced specifically to avoid that by putting the responsibility on the attacking player. My gut told me this was going to come back in real time based on the experience and info I’m privy to receiving on a weekly basis regarding these plays. The only thing I wasn’t sure about truthfully was the fact that Olivier put it into his own goal. That’s the only reason I was 50-50 on it. Ultimately they don’t want goals scored as a result of a goalie not being able to field his position properly. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I actually think they got this correct in applying their standard.

This goal was called BACK due to goalie interference on Lee to keep it 1-0 Isles in a HUGE Eastern Conference playoff race game ❌ Thoughts? 👀

@kevinseanfeeney @richtorrey Our Dad was pretty high on him…he struggled to translate his play at the AHL and Finnish league to the NHL game. Understand that 60 games played is a small sample. Also the focus at RW was the development of Dalgarno and the emergence of Kerr made it hard to keep a spot for him.

Congrats to former colleague, Pat LaFontaine, on being inducted into @NYIslanders Hall of Fame. This proves that you can go home again. The 2 Pats in this pic don't just share the honor of being in NYI HOF, they are hall of fame people. They helped propel me on my 35yr journey.

In 1990, #Isles lost in 5 to #NYr , winning only a 2-OT game on a Brent Sutter goal. @CiC16foundation suffered a concussion on a brutal hit in game 1- he came back to play game 5 leading Sam and JD to describe him as a warrior for coming back so quickly. If we knew now what we knew then…. Have to wonder impact on his career.

@CarryDaInterest @GinoHard_ Why have the rule of it’s not going to be enforced? Fine allow for the toe drag type move but the player has to keep skating. The league wants these games to end quickly so I get it and it showcases talent etc but the goalies are pretty helpless to these types of moves.
