The pathway towards sustainable economic development must exist within a broader ecosystem that brings together strong institutional commitments and active civic participation. This can further be achieved by ensuring we design effective fiscal systems as these systems are responsible for managing public debt while also ensuring a robust regulatory framework that promotes transparency, accountability, and economic stability. If the above is fully achieved, it will create an enabling environment where economic actors, institutions, and citizens can continue to meaningfully participate in national development. #FormNiDialogue #PublicDebtVsFuture ~ Eunice Kamau Program Officer @nisisikenya

In a lived reality, budget frameworks must reflect tangible impact. Stakeholders, especially parents and caregivers of children with disabilities, they want policies they can experience and see working in practice and not merely documents or presentations. They want systems that deliver measurable improvements in education, healthcare, and social protection. Therefore, effective budgeting must translate into visible support, accessible services, and accountability that communities can feel and trust. ~ Roseline Asena Oasis Relations Empowerment Initiative CBO

In a world where speaking up can come at a cost, it often takes even greater courage for women to demand accountability. From the informal sector and community spaces to newsrooms, civil society, and public office, women continue to question power, raise their voices, and insist that leadership must serve the people. This International Women’s Day, TISA celebrates this bravery and reaffirms our commitment to building an inclusive, gender-responsive movement where women are empowered to lead change and shape a more just future. ✊🏽🌸 #InternationalWomensDay

💔 The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA) joins Makueni in mourning Dr. Sonia Nzilani, a remarkable leader and partner. We had the privilege to work with her on improving market systems, digitizing operations, and strengthening trader-driven governance. Her guidance, humility, and dedication inspired every step of our journey together. Her legacy of collaboration, integrity, and service will continue to guide us. We pray for comfort for her family and the community she served so passionately. @mknassembly @GvnMutula May her soul rest in peace. 🌹

Celebrating Progress & Highlighting Challenges Traders in Gikomba are speaking up! Under our Markets Dialogue Series (TRACTION project), informal traders reflected on the Pro-poor taxation framework, which simplified cess and business licenses into one single license. ✅ They shared that this has made doing business easier, but many traders still don’t know about this change. There’s a real need for more civic forums to educate traders on licenses, compliance, record-keeping, safety, and good business practices.

Gikomba traders reminded us that good business practices truly pay off! They shared that when traders stay compliant, keep proper records, and prioritize safety, it doesn’t just build credibility, it can actually open doors to bigger markets, including major supermarkets like Carrefour. 🛒 This reflection highlights how strengthening the voice and capacity of informal traders can turn small stalls into thriving enterprises and promote inclusive economic growth. #MarketsDialogue #TraderReflections #TRACTIONProject #BusinessGrowth #OkoaUchumi

TISA Kenya and Welthungerhilfe (WHH) held a strategic meeting with Hon. Dr. John Mutunga, MP Tigania West Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, alongside Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, MP Githunguri. The discussion focused on the prospects of a Right to Food legislation in Kenya — a critical step toward realizing what is already enshrined in Article 43(1)(c) and Article 52(1)(c) of the Constitution. The MPs underscored the lack of policy coherence in the agri-food sector, the low prioritization of agriculture in planning and budgeting, and the weak multisectoral coordination that continues to disadvantage smallholder farmers and erode the value of food in Kenya.

#TGIF At TISA, we believe that accountability begins with people, building them, supporting them, and celebrating their growth. This belief shapes our work with citizens across the country, and it also guides how we show up for one another as a team. This week, we had the joy of celebrating Susan, the warm and familiar face at our front desk, as she achieved a new academic milestone. Her dedication reflects the same spirit we champion in our work: empowered individuals shaping stronger, more accountable communities. When one of us grows, our community grows. Wishing you a thoughtful and uplifting weekend. 🌼✨

We’ve officially launched Markets Dialogue Series 2 with traders from Muthurwa and the CBD! 🚀 What we’re hearing from traders: They appreciate TISA’s consistent support in improving market spaces. They see our work making markets more dignified, inclusive, and equitable. Why this matters: Markets are powerful economic hubs for Kenya’s transformation. They’re also key spaces for women’s economic empowerment. # Thread

Good morning! ☀️ Catch our Head of Programs, Alexander Riithi, LIVE on #CitizenDayBreak as he breaks down the FY 2026/27 & Medium-Term Budget process. The year is flying by (like, how are we planning for 2026 already? 😅), but that’s exactly why this conversation matters. The budget process starts early and every Kenyan should be plugged in from the beginning because the decisions made now shape our daily lives long before we feel them. Don’t miss it. Stay informed. Stay engaged. 💪🇰🇪 Senegal

Accountants sit at the heart of public finance, turning complex numbers into transparency, shaping decisions that either uplift or burden a nation. When they uphold integrity, they protect every citizen’s future. 📊✨ Every shilling borrowed tells a story of ambition, of risk, of responsibility. And how we manage that debt today defines the Kenya we’ll build tomorrow. 🇰🇪 That’s why Diana Gichego, our Executive Director, will be on a panel at the #ICPAK42ndAnnualSem (Edition II) pushing for strategic debt governance and a stronger role for financial accountability in shaping national priorities. Imagine needing a government service but being forced to wait outside because the office is upstairs with no ramp. For many PWDs in Vihiga, this isn’t fiction, it’s daily reality. Today, TISA brought state and non-state actors together to confront a hard truth: Kenya has strong laws like Article 54, but implementation still lags. We must move from promises to systems. @HakiKNHRC @NGECKenya @KNCHRkisumu @Ncpwds @VihigaCountyGov
