Outdated plans for a dual carriageway across the Arun Valley watermeadows and through the South Downs National Park would destroy our countryside, wildlife, village communities and local businesses. There is an Alternative - #ArundelAlternative ArundelAlternative.org

Stop the A38 Expansion 🍃💚🍃
Scrap roads and save money 🤑 Labour should stop £15bn being wasted on expensive and destructive road schemes that won't work, including the A38 expansion. As the budget approaches soon, tell them you want a future that puts people and planet first ⤵ tinyurl.com/ScrapTheA38

In 1996, Utrecht Netherlands transformed a 6-lane car street thru the heart of the city into a car-free street that easily carries 40k people on bikes a day plus a LOT of public transit riders —far more people than it used to move in cars. HT @modacitylife

We could not have put it better! ➡️We should not be building more or bigger roads when we can't afford to maintain what we have ➡️Building bigger roads increases traffic which increases wear and tear on our roads and the costs of repair ➡️It's time for a transport policy reset

"Portugal introduces €20 monthly rail pass for all train services" It costs me more than that for a day trip into London from a suburb Not only does our train network need to be nationalised, but pricing needs to drop significantly to make train travel affordable, and for those outside of the M25 region, how about more frequent trains, and seats for people to sit on

theguardian.com/politics/2024/… We call on the government to withdraw public funding for the Norwich Wensum Link Road, especially given the current economic climate that necessitates strategic investment cuts. As the nation grapples with a substantial gap in public finances, it is crucial to prioritise essential services and sustainable projects over new road developments. The proposed cuts to infrastructure projects aim to restore fiscal balance and focus on long-term economic growth. Halting funding for the Norwich Wensum Link Road aligns with the broader call for fiscal responsibility, ensuring that investment is channelled towards initiatives that truly benefit the public and support an economically resilient future. It is imperative that we choose investments that bolster rather than burden the economy, reinforcing sustainable practices and essential public services. @labourlewis @CllrTerryJermy @LouHaigh @BenGoldsborough @AliceMLabour @DanGrimmer24 @SteveMorphew @Steffanaquarone

Big day tomorrow! It's decision day for the £9bn Lower Thames Crossing. The biggest road in a generation. Approving the scheme could be unlawful if it is to be built using private finance (as is being rumoured).

Investment in new road building, over other forms of transport investment, does not deliver good value for money, help meet Labour’s missions, deliver the emissions savings needed to reach net zero, or safeguard nature. - @IPPR ippr.org/articles/makin…

20th century urban planning changed the concept of a street from a place to pass time to a place to pass through. 21st century planning is about reversing that mindset and prioritizing people living in a city over cars driving through it. Ferenciek tere, Budapest: 2011 vs 2024.

Remember, when it comes to the actual likelihood that a vehicle crash will occur at all, AND whether the consequences of a crash are serious, or even deadly, or not, speed is ALWAYS a factor. Including when the legal speed limits are currently too high. #SpeedKills #VisionZero

The A66 is the very worst value road in this list costing £1.2bn but with only 92p return for every £1 spent. There are so many better and cheaper ways to promote safety on the road than a new 70mph dual carriageway, but these were never even considered by National Highways

@yates_oli @CitizenUddin If he can't legally park on the road, he can't legally park on the pavement. The highway and its restrictions cover both.

@CitizenUddin But the pavement is more than wide enough it doesn't hinder anyone. If they blocked the whole path I could agree, but as he legally can't park on the road there isn't really anywhere else for them to load/unload.

West Ealing High Street I asked this driver why he was parked on the pavement. "I'm making a delivery and there is nowhere to park" he said. Did you consider the road I asked him? At which point he rolled his window up. The moral of the story? If you choose to be lazy and endanger others even if it is in a very minor way in Ealing, you get reported. The End.
