After the Cold War ended, the framework should have collapsed.
The "communist threat," the justification for everything, was gone.
The Soviet Union dissolved.
The Warsaw Pact disappeared.
The ideological enemy ceased to exist.
The interventions didn't stop.
Iraq. Somalia. Haiti. Sudan. Yugoslavia. Afghanistan. Pakistan. Libya. Syria. Ukraine. Yemen. Venezuela. Iran.
The justifications changed: humanitarian intervention, weapons of mass destruction, war on terror, responsibility to protect, democracy promotion, nonproliferation, anti-narcotics, rules-based order.
The logic didn't change.
The logic was always this:
America's ability to determine the political and economic arrangements of other countries must be maintained.
Any government that threatens that ability must be destabilized.
Any government that cooperates with that ability will be supported.
The Cold War was not the cause of the logic.
The Cold War was the costume the logic wore for fifty years.
When the costume became unavailable, they found new costumes quickly.
Terror. Humanitarianism. Democracy.
The logic underneath wore them all equally well.
Because the logic was never about communism.
The logic was about control.
Communism was just the best available enemy for fifty years.

I saw a video where Neil deGrasse Tyson narrated how racist 19th century anthropologists set up human racial hierarchies with white males at the top of the evolutionary ladder and Blacks and other non whites lower down, still evolving and closer to the apes.
He explained that back then, calling someone a Neanderthal was a straight up insult because Neanderthals were seen as brutish and primitive. But then in the 1990s, once genetic testing became possible, scientists discovered that Europeans carry 1 to 3% Neanderthal DNA while Africans have 0%. Suddenly, research papers started coming out praising how creative, imaginative, and skilled with tools the Neanderthals must have been.
Tyson pointed out it was a complete u-turn of the Neanderthal image that began right around the time they learned this genetic information.
Interesting example on how bias can shape science… and this is true mostly in anthropological research…

⭕️ 111 people were killed in Gaza during April as Israel carried out 377 ceasefire violations, the Government Information Office said Thursday. The attacks also wounded 376 people and were described as a “flagrant” breach of the agreement and international humanitarian law.
Humanitarian terms were largely unmet: only 4,503 aid trucks entered out of 18,000 required (25%), and just 187 fuel trucks out of 1,500 (12%). Travel was also restricted, with 1,567 crossings versus 6,000 agreed (26%).
Officials say the figures reflect systematic obstruction of aid and movement, undermining the truce and worsening Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, and called on mediators to enforce full compliance.
