@drdaven1 Yes! Many hypotheses for the rise of dementia (aging pop, lifestyle, nutrition, air pollution). Longitudinal data and stored samples will let us look at changes over 30y in markers of metabolic & cognitive health to better understand the root causes of dementia.

@AshleyHTjaden The question is, where were all the dementia cases years and years ago when we ate WAY less garbage?

Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and its offshoot, the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) have lost their funding. ..some of our 3100 participants had been participating for two to three decades... Prevention....20-30 years? You couldn't teach them in 30 years?

“Every day that goes by without funding, our valuable staff at our 30 centers are lost and the rent for research space and the cost of supplies are lost; the study begins to dissolve." - Dr. D. Nathan re the #NIH -funded #Diabetes Prevention Program medscape.com/viewarticle/di…

Restore the Diabetes Prevention Program | It is important to understand that the bulk of the funding is spread across 30 institutions in 21 states. It’s imperative that every senator and representative is contacted about the urgency of saving this program. Join our campaign: bit.ly/4kGIlLk

RFK ended the 30 year diabetes prevention program which showed that lifestyle changes can reduce the threat of type 2 diabetes by 58%. As the study participants have gotten older the risk factors for dementia related to lifestyle choices has been studied. facebook.com/reel/904861661…

@drdaven1 This type of longitudinal study is rare & only study design to determine the impact of preventative interventions & root causes of chronic diseases. If decision is not reversed, it will undermine our best opportunity to uncover the root cause of Alzheimer’s and Dementia!

@drdaven1 DPPOS is the long-term follow up of the original cohort, and is currently studying Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, in addition to continuing to study the long-term effects of diabetes prevention on other health conditions such as cancer, CVD, kidney disease, etc.

@iamlizolson @VPrasadMDMPH Unless the funding decision is immediately reversed, the infrastructure for this important project will collapse undermining our nation’s best opportunity to uncover the root cause of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, waste taxpayer’s $$, and work against the Admin’s stated goal of MAHA.

@iamlizolson @VPrasadMDMPH DPPOS is a continuation of the DPP study and has followed 1700 of the original participants for almost 30 years. This type of longitudinal study is rare and is the only study design that can determine the impact of preventative interventions and root causes of chronic diseases.
