The Ministry's ASPIRE and ARISE Projects intend to establish more than 50 megawatts of renewable energy generation across the Maldives' 24 islands. The project will significantly contribute to the nation's goal of reducing fossil fuel dependency, accelerating toward the president's target of producing 33% of electricity from renewables by 2028.

Minister Thoriq Ibrahim met with MATI and leading fuel suppliers to discuss the impact of the Middle East situation on the Maldives. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views and address matters raised by stakeholders. @matimaldivesmv @stoplc

Great to see the resumption of Qatar Airways scheduled flights to Maldives. The resumed flights will no doubt be welcome news for Maldivian travelers and visitors to Maldives. Qatar Airways remains a vital node, connecting Maldives to the wider world and I thank the airline for the role it continues to play for Maldives tourism and international connectivity.

Had the pleasure of inaugurating the 2026 edition of the Vacations Expo. Bringing together resorts, hotels, airlines, travel and tour operators, the Expo has become a much anticipated event in the Maldives travel and hospitality calendar. The government will continue to support such events, and will work with all industry partners to drive the sustainable growth and development of the Maldives tourism industry.

Minister Thoriq Ibrahim met with National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM) and National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM) to discuss the impact of the evolving instability in the Middle East on tourism, with a particular focus on the liveaboard, hotel, and guesthouse sectors. Discussions focused on adaptive measures, operational continuity, and close coordination across the tourism industry.

Great to catch up with @husendidi and discuss the progress and challenges for environmental conservation. As a renowned diver himself, I was also pleased to have the opportunity to discuss with him on facilitating Tech Wreck Diving in Maldives, with safety as a key priority. Tech Wreck Diving will provide a very unique opportunity to explore the marine beauty of Maldives, and I will be discussing with relevant stakeholders on how we can facilitate this.

As part of our ongoing stakeholder consultations regarding the Maldives' dive sector regulations, Minister @ThoriqIbrahim met with diving expert Hussein Sendi today. Gathering views from various industry veterans is vital as we work to update our safety and environmental frameworks.

The 5 Million Trees Project is pleased to sign an MoU with Fuvahmulah City Council to jointly operate a Green Nursery in Fuvahmulah City. The project aims to develop 20 nursery sites across Maldives. @FVMCouncil

This year’s World Meteorological Day, reminds us of the vital role weather and climate services play in building resilient communities. I extend my deepest gratitude to the dedicated meteorological professionals at the Maldives Meteorological Service and worldwide, whose data-driven insights and monitoring provide the early warning information that ensure our safety and guide our path toward a sustainable future.

The Ministry held discussions with a CMEC representative to explore collaboration in the energy sector. During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to establish a framework for joint collaboration between the parties to develop a Private Sector Initiated Proposal (PSIP) for rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Hulhumalé.
