Many people struggle to stay active simply because they haven’t found an activity they truly enjoy. The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to follow what others like; physical activity comes in many forms!💪

Forbes just released its latest annual ranking of global billionaires. The pace at which extreme wealth is rising is simply staggering: The wealth of global billionaires now reaches the equivalent of 17% of world GDP. 🧵

I'd note my lab stopped using null hypothesis testing several years ago, opting instead for Bayesian stats and magnitude-based inferences. IMHO, it should be the default in applied sciences nature.com/articles/d4158…

The 3 hardest things to learn as a scientist: 1. Trust the data.. especially when it’s not what you expected, 2. Trust the data.. allowing it to change your direction, 3. Trust the data.. but not too much: test with new data at every turn.

Our 2nd monthly issue, "Biology's New Era," is live now on bigthink.com. In this issue, we explore the bleeding edge of biotech, as well as the scientists, writers, and philosophers whose efforts helped get us here. Some of what's inside: ⬤ Scientist-turned-writer Alex Hutchinson @sweatscience uses the legend of Secretariat to probe the limits of human athletic performance. ⬤ Futurist Peter Leyden examines how synthetic biology could help save Earth. ⬤ Astrophysicist Ethan Siegel @startswithabang challenges the leading theory of how life began. All that and much, much more. We hope you enjoy.

I was a guest on the latest Iron Culture episode to promote my new book from @BloomsburyHist When Fitness Went Global We talked about how fitness became global, why training norms aren’t timeless, and why history should open up options rather than trap us in nostalgia. If you lift and like thinking about why things look the way they do, you’ll enjoy this one. @UlsterSchSport Link 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=S3aT01…

Scientists used to talk about God like this regularly. Then they didn’t for most of my life. Then, suddenly in just the last few years, they did again. I could talk for hours with @hubermanlab about this.

Most importantly, we should insist that a PhD is not merely a vague title but actually means what it implies: it is an award to an expert who has proven their scientific worth and not to someone who stayed in a tolerant group for long enough.

It's time to remove laptops from classrooms. 24 experiments: Students learn more and get better grades after taking notes by hand than typing. It's not just because they're less distracted—writing enables deeper processing and more images. The pen is mightier than the keyboard.
