Just learned about the 1960s experiment NASA conducted to teach dolphins English and have them mimic human phrases. The scientists kept them hooked on drugs, and one of the scientists was raping one of the dolphins, whom they named Peter. When she was caught, she claimed that it was helping him "focus". After she was removed from the team, Peter killed himself by holding his breath underwater until he drowned. The experiment was shut down after this, but the remaining dolphins were not released back into the wild. Instead, they were sent to another research facility. Unlike us, who breathe automatically, Dolphins are conscious breathers and choose to inhale or exhale. Experts say they can kill themselves under intense amounts of depression or stress. She sexually abused an innocent animal and manipulated it to the point that it was fully reliant on her without having any choice, KNOWING that dolphins are very emotionally intelligent and her abuse would affect it. I truly believe the worst thing that has happened to animals is humans. Scientists have tortured animals for years and continue to do so. Many people don't value animals' lives, and millions suffer as a result.

@emkenobi Agreed, the best way to look at it is that Star Wars is American mythology, whereas Dune could be considered the source material that inspired that mythology. The cultural relevance of Dune will increase as we begin to confront the threat of machine minds.

From a cultural standpoint, Star Wars arguably overshadows any other franchise. Everyone knows who Darth Vader is. Everyone knows what a lightsaber is. From a writing standpoint, Dune is better since that’s what inspired Lucas to make Star Wars in the first place. Frank Herbert wrote something truly unique. Without Dune Star Wars doesn’t exist. However, you can’t deny more people know about Star Wars than Dune.

They both needed a father, and that was what Qui-gon was. They needed things that the other couldn't provide, yet they still expected them. That was the root of their issues and why they inevitably lost their bond. The heartbreaking thing is that they never realized it until it was too late.
