@murkiri Oh how I wish we lived in a world where Sword and Shield was given a full development time. It could have been such a strong start for mainline Pokemon on console, and the series probably would have taken a much healthier direction on Switch. Such missed potential.

i think the idea that Rose is this egotist with an inferiority complex is super interesting. He portrays himself as a tragic villain but basically puts the world in danger bc he wanted to put his name in history books and one up his brother who beat him to become champion.

Never in my many years of experience with audiovisual media and art criticism would I have imagined that Yoshi of all things would be such a litmus test of artistic literacy among critics. The latest title in the Yoshi series is an unorthodox 2D adventure with a clear purpose of delivering a light story and an exploration-centric experience with no real platforming difficulty at hand, instead focused on world puzzle challenges instead. It is designed purposefully as a title meant to be experienced as a chill zoology-themed adventure game about knowing more of the imaginative wildlife and finding new forms of interacting with different creatures in multiple levels that take advantage of unique mechanics from each of said creatures. It isn't a 2D platformer like previous titles, but rather a completely different take on the genre. It still embraces interactivity and creativity in level design, with very strong presentation based on colored pencil picture books, and music from Final Fantasy XI composer Kumi Tanioka. When looking at how critics parsed this game's goals and execution, you get a very interesting case study of what is good and bad art criticism. (1/11) 🧵

@TemmieOrSmth99 I never said there would be in-universe connections. Asgore as the king of a dark world is an obvious parallel to Undertale on its own, the flowers are already set up to mirror the seven human souls, it’s likely the chapter is designed to play at memories of Undertale.

@sleeepysleeepy While both games are unquestionable masterpieces, I do prefer Super Mario Odyssey a bit more because I am the kind of person who hates to destroy beautiful things, and prefers to explore environments in a non-destructive manner. I hope this is acceptable!

Super Mario Odyssey and Donkey Kong Bananza (without paid DLC) have almost exactly the same structure in terms of distribution of major, medium and minor areas. In addition, both have 17 areas total, out of which 7 are of particular significance.
