The Japanese journalist probably thought he was being slick by slipping in that question to make it clear Japan has no involvement in the US's attack on Iran. But instead of letting it slide, the US didn't just brush off Japan—they hit back hard by dredging up Japan's invasion history right in public, humiliating Takaichi right after she went out of her way to praise Trump for "bringing peace to the world."
She's just embarrassing her own country at this point.
