I truly don’t understand why people aren’t also equally appalled at Benson’s slewfoot. Yes, the stick slash is way more dangerous and far more violent and cannot happen. Me: "We're literally teaching documented American history. The protests, the marches, the legislation, these are verifiable historical events with mountains of evidence, photographs, video footage, and living witnesses. There's no agenda here. This is just factual history that happened within living memory." Father: "You're distorting the truth" Me: "Sir, I'm very sorry, but if you're going to deny well-documented historical events that fundamentally shaped modern America, then I can't help you. I strongly encourage you to speak with your daughter about what she's actually learning rather than assuming the worst." I politely ended the call. The next day I showed another documentary, this time about the Freedom Riders. And naturally, that man's daughter was completely captivated, taking notes furiously and asking to borrow books on the subject. I think I might've inspired a future historian. “Should schools teach the full truth of history, even when it makes people uncomfortable?”
