Everything progresses step by step. The argument is straightforward: what we are demanding now is real-time electronic transmission of election results from polling units. Further improvements toward full electronic voting can come later.
In the past, physically moving results from one location to another has led to compromises; results have been hijacked, altered, or manipulated. We’ve seen cases where figures were changed and even written over with different ink and we don't know which agent own to believe.
The position of the opposition and many Nigerians is simple: Kenya is already implementing real-time transmission of results, which proves it is possible. So why can’t we do the same?
All we are asking for is real-time transmission of results directly from polling units. It is doable. Only dishonest politicians would resist a system that promotes transparency and accountability.
