@Attithewizard

Autocrats first remove the truth. Then, remove those who oppose him or expose the truth. Then, remove the remaining people that they just don't like.

@mossybawls @shibadad8 The popularity of his policies is how he got the money. She was promising not to give it months ago lmao. He achieved a political goal with policy messaging and pressure to deliver for his voters. He didn't rob a bank for it.

@Attithewizard @JamesTate121 The government in the USA has to do more taxes for health insurance for all US citizens. Being healthy is a part of dignity. Military for example isnt. Why do the consumer has to pay more, when you tax the rich? This makes no sense.

@NaseemHaffar @waltermasterson NYC spent 1.35 billion just on asylum seeker costs lol. NYC needs less people milking the system not more. Chasing off the rich, means fewer jobs, less capital, larger deficits.

Taxes are not for the dignity of all people. Also, the EU tax is a VAT tax. Which the consumer ends up paying when they purchase goods. Any tax on the rich gets passed on to the consumer. In the US, we pay about half our income in taxes, between what comes out of our check, on top of the gas, sales, property taxes (just to name a few). Governments dont need more taxes. They need to spend what they recieve better.

@Attithewizard @JamesTate121 And what is about EU(450mio)? I believe the problem is, that the rich ppl. dont have to pay as much tax like the rich ppl. in the EU. EU tax is for the dignity of all ppl.

@MetamateDaz Now do politicians and how many homes and how much wealth they have accused since getting in office. Then think about the fact you want these same politician's to have complete control of every aspect of your life

there are people who own multiple homes, take private jets, own 2 yachts, helicopters, and a collection of luxury cars and you think the low income families struggling to buy food and gas are stealing your tax dollars?

@keepingitjoshi @DrLearnALot But we are not really a capilatist country here anymore. We are a mixed economy. The more socialist it becomes the worse it has gotten.

The reason none of this works is because it ignores the basic laws of economics. The more the government pushes against them, the worse off we are. Just look at how much worse the value of the dollar and our way of life have gotten the more socialist programs they implement and increase. By going more into it, it'll just make everything worse lol

Here’s my proposal to raise an additional 10% of GDP in American taxes: - Restore top income tax rate to pre-Reagan 70%. - Tax capital income the same as labor income. - Restore corporate tax to Reagan-era 40%. - Introduce progressive inheritance tax from 40-80%. - Introduce a 5% wealth tax over $100 million. - Introduce a 12% VAT. - Introduce a financial transactions tax. - Introduce a modest carbon tax. This seems farcical today. But in ten years? I’m not so sure.

But in order for them to do that, theyd have to cash out all there stocks, which for one would be illegal and the exchange would just close the market. And 2, after the weeks long amount of time it took them to do it. The stock exchange would be 0, everyone's 401k's would be worthless. Every publicly traded company would close due to having 0 capital on hand to function.

@Attithewizard @rcbregman That's what he's saying you need to prove... That making the wealthy give it away would also hurt the middle-class and poor. You're just asserting it, not proving it. And if it would be destructive to make them give it ALL away, why not just some of it? Say, 50 to 90%?

My position: 1. Nobody really earns/deserves anything. Free will is a delusion – we don't choose our genes, parents, environment, or even our willpower. 2. The only honest defense of inequality is pragmatic: that the phenomenon of billionaires (and perhaps also the belief in free will) helps make society richer. And that trying to regulate them away would do more collateral damage. (Not saying this is necessarily true, but that pro-billionaires would have to make this case.) 3. If you're a billionaire, it's your moral imperative to give nearly all of your wealth away, and use your position to help as many people and animals as possible (+ advocate for higher taxes on the super rich!). Because it's pure dumb luck this happened to you, and not someone else. Ethically, you're no better than someone who won the literal lottery.
Derek Thompson@DKThomp

my position is 1. most billionaires earn their money legally 2. even if billionaires mostly "earn" their billions, i think that the concentration of wealth is a political, societal, and even economic problem. (for example: billionaire contributions to national elections could easily get to 25-50% of total political spend, and the power that implies over political and agenda capture makes me nervous; plus, at some point, concentration could move money from spenders to savers in a way that could be troublesome for growth) 3. recent tax cuts for s corps and c corps really don't help with (2) 4. to begin to address (2) i think we should undo the trump tax cuts, increase avg effective estate taxes, and probably raise the national minimum effective tax rate for the wealthiest ppl. it's too easy for billionaires to pay lower effective tax rates than the middle class with the c/s corp rules we have now

There investments in the company are what allow them to innovate to create new products. And as to the second part, if everyone was a millionaire that would be great. But it will never happen because not everyone is equal. It takes drive, dedication, and an above average intelligence to make it to the top 1% wage earner.

@Attithewizard @rcbregman How are they helping the economy by hoarding it? What's better, 1,000 millionaires or 1 billionaire? How about 10,000 people with $100,000 or 1 billionaire? The answer is obvious

The US subsidizes there Healthcare. By us doing 99% of ALL medical innovation. None of those countries pay market rate for prescriptions. They do not adhere to patent laws. Which in turn makes US pay more for prescriptions. We also entirely defend them from foreign threats. Its like living at home with your parents paying all the bills and then saying that anyone can live on a part time job because you do it lol
