The hospitality industry in Uganda suffers structural challenges around decent work. 60% of its workers are informal, work long hours, & wages are low. Richard Nyakojo, director of Westend Motel in Fort Portal western Uganda, explains efforts to improve working conditions.

How the modern man eats: At 7 AM "Heavy morning breakfast" of: - Pasteurized milk - Wheat (Shawarma) - Sugar - Oats & cornflakes - Bread - Transfats eg Margarine. Then, proceeds to yawn like a mongoose. At 10 AM, • More tea • Wheat (Anjera) • Weetabix • Soy milk Then continue yawning like a mongoose. At 1 PM • Rice/Biryani • Spaghetti • Seed oils (Arosto) • Soda Then, proceed to yawn like a mongoose At 4 PM • A cup of tea with pasteurized milk • Biscuits • Shawarma • Sausage Then, proceed to yawn like a mongoose. At 6 PM, • Drinks a concoction of hot water, lemon, ginger and honey at a Somali restaurant thinking this is the most healthiest thing on earth. At 9 PM, • Pilau • Spaghetti • Seed oils Then, proceed to yawn like a mongoose. Just before bedtime, • A cup of tea with pasteurized milk • A modern fruit • Peanuts • Anjera Then, proceed to yawn like a mongoose. - Will toss the whole night in bed because of sleeplessness and a rebellious gut. - Will wake up in the morning so tired, with a foggy mind and anger. - Will repeat the cycle Then wonders why they are always sick, tired, nonproductive, angry, anxious, chaotic, and depressed with erectile dysfunction. UNFAT! #ManDay

@EPRC_official ED Sarah Ssewanyana has kicked off our policy dialogue on informality, noting that informality does not have to be the Ugandan story. There is need to change this path, she said, calling for honest reflections on what must change #BizFormal2025 @ikasirye_ug

Avoid eating fish that is deep-fried in seed oils. Here is why, Fish's most significant nutrient is Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in fish oil. This fish oil is also known as Omega-3, which consists of EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA are fatty acids vital for the health of your brain, eyes and heart. Seed oils, on the other hand, contain a significant amount of industrially manufactured Omega-6 or Linoleic Acid. Omega-6s are Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, but for seed oils, they are industrially produced. Here is the problem, Omega-6 is inflammatory, especially when the ratio of omega-3 and Omega-6 is tipped towards Omega-6. When fish is fried in seed oils, the fish oil is denatured and displaced by the industrial Omega-6 fatty acids found in seed oils. Therefore, you end up consuming toxic Omega-6 fatty acids and none of the Omega-3. Additionally, when seed oils are heated, they become rancid, releasing radicals that ultimately trigger a wave of inflammation in the body. It is therefore ridiculous to see people with chronic inflammation, like Hypertension, Diabetes, Arthritis and Cancer, eating fish fried in seed oils. Fish must be eaten freshly boiled or shallowly stewed in tallow/coconut oil, or sun-dried, smoked, or baked, not deep-fried in seed oils. This way, you get nutritional benefits from the fish. What really does one need to secure a job at the district level? It's more than just a skill. You need some cash too. Our collaborative study with the @IGGUganda showing the extent of corruption in the district service commissions is covered in @DailyMonitor today

I pray none of you gets cancer. It's a horrible disease, especially once it starts to spread. Sadly, about 1 in 3 people will get cancer. That's when we want to start eating healthy food. Why do we wait for cancer? Start making healthy choices now. Every small choice counts.

To achieve this, we must confront the realities of our roads and markets, learn from evidence, and commit to bold action." 3/ #foodsecurityUG
