whenever there's an ABC strike I check my email and realize I've actually been an MEAA member since 2002, they've been taking dues out of my account for 22 years since I worked at Village Cinemas as a kid. Pretty soon the current crop of legacy journoids will die out from antibiotic resistant STDs (and shame) and then I'll be Australia's longest living MEAA member. Maybe they'll let me give out a Walkley.

@HelyarMark @aus_pill So the National Museum, various Australian Government departments and Wikipedia (not AI slop) are all wrong in thinking it was named after Henry Ayers and not Henry Ayer?
English

@taipan168 Brisbane is a modern city. Maybe they have enormous bulkheads that hide the docks when no ships are in.
I've not spent a lot of time there, but Victoria seems to be a very popular lass.

English

@AudioAdvent Do you want to see what it suggested when I asked it for a 5km running route around the Brisbane River? 😂😂😂

English

@jstrocchi @RonnyLerner Have you ever asked an adherent of either faith whether they think they're the same?
You might find Christ's supposed divinity and who is "chosen" by their god are grounds for vehement disagreement.
English

@AudioAdvent @RonnyLerner Its not my fault if you are too dumb to connect two dots.

The treatment of Australia’s Jewish community has been utterly disgraceful.
The abandonment of it by the current government has been nothing short of treachery.
Since eight Jews arrived here on the First Fleet, generations of patriotic loyal Jews have absolutely loved this country to bits and given so much to it.
Perhaps there is no better example of this than military service during the two World Wars.
In World War I, 13% of the Jewish population served for the Australian army, which was way higher than the percentage of the general Australian population (9.2%). In the same war, 1.3% of Australia’s Jews died fighting for this country, which was also at a higher rate than Australia’s general population (1.26%).
In World War II, Australia’s Jews answered the call again, with 13.7% of its community fighting for their nation, which was a very similar percentage to that of the general Australian population (14.2%). In the same war, 0.41% of this country’s Jews died in battle and 0.57% of Australia’s general population paid the ultimate price.
Sir John Monash is one of Australia’s greatest military heroes.
In every Australian synagogue, a prayer for the King and the Royal Family is recited and is usually permanently visible hanging on a wall.
We have been here for 240 years and are intrinsically intertwined in the great Australian story, whether it be in business/job creation, medicine, science, philanthropy, the arts, education, sport or politics, most notably two
Governors-General Sir Isaac Isaacs and Sir Zelman Cowen.
But above all else, we have fought and spilled our blood alongside our non-Jewish brothers and sisters in order to play our part in ensuring Australia is the free, beautiful country that it is today.
Australia is built on the fundamental notion of mateship, but how its Jewish community has been relentlessly attacked and largely ignored for the last 2.5 years is absolutely no way to treat a mate, especially after all they’ve done for this amazing country for centuries, and particularly in the capacity as heroic Diggers.
The time has come for everyday Australians to start sticking up for their Jewish brothers and sisters who are suffering daily torment and anguish largely in silence and alone. Because without mateship, Australia ceases to be Australia.
English

@jstrocchi @RonnyLerner LOL. That's an answer to a question I never asked.
English

@AudioAdvent @RonnyLerner Its called the Bible.
Judeo: Old Testament
Christian: New Testa,ent
English

@HostynCarine @Retin_SC @DrNeilStone Cool. Now cite a study that shows the "proposed" treatment regime was ever attempted and, if so, evidence that it worked (or was even slightly efficacious).

English

@Matt_Camenzuli @Trapper89916127 LOL. You're using a business right now that does that and if you've ever used Facebook or bought anything via Amazon, you've experienced it. Cory Doctorow calls the phenomenon "enshittification".
English

@AudioAdvent @Trapper89916127 Businesses serve their clients, they don't punish them for existing.

Cigarettes need to get back to 25 dollars a packet to compete.
The excise needs to be cut far more.
They also have to stop the plain packaging garbage.
The imports taste better.
People will always smoke, it's not the governments job.
Sky News Australia@SkyNewsAust
Anthony Albanese is being urged to slash tobacco excise by half amid warnings it has created the world's "worst" illicit tobacco market and ripped $11 billion from the federal budget. skynews.com.au/australia-news…
English

@Trapper89916127 @Matt_Camenzuli Lots of people on this hell site say the government should be run like a business. If you're one of them, you should be happy. They're profiting from your weakness... as any business worth its salt would.
English

@Matt_Camenzuli Still legal to smoke last I heard so stay the Fuk outta my business Govt ..
English

@Matt_Camenzuli Cigarettes aren't sentient. They don't "need" anything.
English

@HelyarMark @aus_pill In that case, you should object to the spawn of property-developer parasites who thinks it's named after someone called "Ayer".
English

@aus_pill My ancestor named it Ayers rock.
I will literally die before I speak the word Uluru.
English

@aus_pill An Australian patriot is the motherfucking spawn of property-developing parasites who sticks apostrophes in everything, including a rock named by settlers after a fellow called Ayers, not "Ayer".
English

@jstrocchi @RonnyLerner I'm interested in the "Judeo-Christian religion", not Christianity or Judaism. Can you give me the address of a place of worship where it is practiced?
English

@RonnyLerner I stand with Jews.
We share the Judeo-Christian religion.
We've been together 240 years.
Monash is Australia's GOAT.
Blood & Soil.

@taipan168 So many here know little about the responsibilities of different levels of government. Recently, some dickhead accused AshPolitik of working for a council (LGA) after he advocated more public transport from state governments. It looks as if you're attracting the same morons here.
English

Well mate, if you voted One Nation at a South Australian state level because the level of migration is your main concern, there's one word for you.
MORON!

@gomichild Walters Wine Bar in Southbank did the best F&Cs ever. It closed, so your assertion must be true.
English

So far the best fish and chip shop is "the one that used to be good before they sold it/it closed".
🤣🤣
Crowbar Jones 🥘🔪@gomichild
Question for those in Australia - name & location of your favourite fish & chip shop?

@aaronsmith @Cam_M_Caldwell At least one person here has buyer's remorse!
English

@AudioAdvent @Cam_M_Caldwell What happened here? Cam had 2 likes when I last looked, and now he’s suffered a 50% collapse.

English

@aaronsmith @Cam_M_Caldwell When the history of reply ratios is written, this will be a classic of the genre.

English

@Cam_M_Caldwell Your party frustrated the transition and failed to invest in the infrastructure we desperately needed to accelerate it.
That’s why many are now paying $250 to fill up a car when they could've instead been paying $5 to charge one.

Aaron Smith@aaronsmith
Michaelia Cash’s brilliant plan in 2019 for Johnny was to lock him into a vehicle that costs nearly $300 a week to fill up, forever. That was the moribund, visionless LNP model: resist the future and leave Johnny paying for their 1950s nostalgia.
