Three Saints on Ecumenical Patriarch ATHENAGORAS of Constantinople and his public teachings and endeavors: St. Sophrony the Athonite St. John Maximovitch St. Paisios the Athonite Their criticisms are significant since the Greek Orthodox world strongly embraces these saints 🧵

It is my firm conviction that Patriarch Athenagoras was a saint. His love, magnanimity, pious service to the Church and to his neighbor, and peace of spirit and soul are testaments to the grace of God that was given to him and mediated through him. Sadly, few figures in modern Orthodoxy have been so slandered and defamed, often on the basis of obvious distortions. Regardless, when you read about him, and I encourage everyone to do so, you are struck by the depth of his love and devotion. The Church has rarely had such a great leader, of whom we are unworthy. But even in repose, he speaks to us and inspires us to pursue unity in the love of Christ above all. Athenagoras, pray for us!
