Following a standard workplace safety check, I have just received an email from a university administrator in which my custom of keeping books on the shelves in my office is described as "the unnecessary storing of combustible materials".

@ChristopherF198 btw I suppose the memo is the university’s own net zero logic of making life ‘paperless’

@AugheyArthur There's very little on my shelves between Marx and Plato that they would approve of: Mill, More, Mosca, Douglas Murray, Nietzsche, Nozick, Oakeshott, Ortega y Gasset, Noel O'Sullivan, Pareto... All highly inflammatory.

This really is an abomination, isn't in Belfast? You've destroyed the best view of your most daring modern building for this collection of Weetabix packets.

RTE presenters generally speak with clarity, and one excellent male presenter speaks slowly enough for deafies to catch each word. Problem with British presenters is that they gabble, elide words (a London thing) and drop their voice at sentence end.
Benburb93@ColmanOfGuaire

Up to the early 2000s current affairs presenters in the UK spoke with posh accents. In Ireland most presenters spoke well, but with no hint of poshness as such (Brian Farrell being an exception). This imo made them a less abstract, more insinuating, presence in people's lives.

@PLSoc The Larkin poem Party Politics’ inspired that great song ‘Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps’…well, who knows, perhaps it did. I hope it did.

@AugheyArthur Perhaps we might think that ‘800 years of oppression’ is as performative as ‘our own language’
