The DUP have rolled out the red carpet for yet another extreme English politician offering little more than performative concern for people here. It only reinforces their lurch further to the extreme right & shows they have learned nothing from the damage caused by their Brexit fiasco. The politics of hatred, fear & division have no place in our society.

🚨💥NEW: Reform’s Robert Jenrick says 'Northern Ireland let down over Brexit' during Shankill Road visit 🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to @reformparty_uk MP @RobertJenrick. 📍He was in Belfast alongside @duponline Leader @GRobinsonDUP. Mr Jenrick says it “pains” him to admit it as a former Conservative, but that government let Northern Ireland down. He says too few Westminster politicians visit Northern Ireland and that people here have a right to feel “neglected.” He was asked how things would change under a potential Reform UK government.

A remarkable triumph for the inclusive, accommodating vision of Irishness shaped by Nationalist/Republican leaders in a city in which political unionism sought to shut down & exclude manifestations of Irishness for generations. It says a lot about our past, but also the future.

At a St. Patrick's Day breakfast at Gracie Mansion, Mayor Mamdani notes that Irish politicians, like former President Mary Robinson, have long stood in "solidarity" with Palestinians. He praises the Irish for their "resistance" and "unity."

This is a really interesting film on one of the big topics of our time, reunification on the island of Ireland. @Dena speaks to a wide range of people, who talk for the most part about the politics of this place, which is hard to avoid in this part of the world. For me, I am more interested in the economic (opportunity) upside of an all island economy and how full integration of services and the two economies, will raise the standard of living for people right across the island. In particular I am interested in the possibilities that sit with aligning the economic structure of the North of Ireland with the South, which ultimately puts our part of the island on an even playing field, when it comes to attracting inward investment into infrastructure, public services and our local economy. There is some good work going on around the reunification debate now, and what that might look like for ordinary folk. In particular the work of @JohnDoyleDCU and @ArinsProject leads the way with research into the data available. The Shared Ireland fund has up to €1BN to invest in projects across the island up to 2035, and with a large chunk of that money allocated for Cross Border infrastructure and tourism projects (over €600M already earmarked for NI based projects), this is a symptom of what is possible when we look at the island as one, as opposed to two very different jurisdictions. One certainty is that STATUS QUO is no longer a sustainable economic model for the c.1.9M people who live in the North, as the lived experience here is to watch and experience how our public services and infrastructure continue to regress.

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are two separate countries, thanks to the British partitioning the island in 1921. But today there's a growing movement to reunify. @Dena asks people on both sides of the border – do you want to see a united Ireland?
