I’m proud to “apologize” for monetary expansion insofar as it serves to accommodate growth in real money demand (and not necessarily all of that growth, as anyone familiar with my “productivity norm” arguments will know). It beats apologizing for recessions and depressions! 1/2
Tokita Ohma@thetigersvessel

@BobMurphyEcon @GeorgeSelgin But with gold this “cantillon” distortion would be short lived as new entrepreneurs would enter the sector. Making it less of a windfall to gold producers. But this doesn’t happen with fiat money and bank credit expansion (selgin is an apologist for these practices).

🧵I’ve listened to Bob’s talk, and I’m afraid i remain as inclined as ever to pooh-pooh, not Cantillon (whose own theory I’ve never objected to), but what I view as mistepresentations of that theory by certain Austrians.
Robert P. Murphy@BobMurphyEcon

Recently @GeorgeSelgin was pooh-poohing the "internet Austrian" focus on Cantillon Effects. But in this house, Richard Cantillon is a hero. (Link next.)

1️⃣🎱 Following #Röpke: Since the Austrian Business Cycle Theory is a time mismatch between savings & investments, the malinvestments of the boom can be cured by reducing investments to the level of savings or by increasing savings to the level of investment. In other words, the malinvestments of the boom can be cured by reducing the investment flow bc consumption flow is too high, or by reducing the consumption flow for a time so the flow of mismatched investment have more time to be finished.

Cc: @Kicker0024, @vladiwerning, @FedericoFuriase

Activist: "You're killing innocent animals." Farmer: "I am." Activist: "That's cruel." Farmer: "Is it? They live outside, eat fresh grass, never know a predator, receive veterinary care, and die instantly without seeing it coming." Activist: "But you kill them." Farmer: "Once. After 18 months of comfortable life." Activist: "They deserve to live." Farmer: "They do live. Better than their wild ancestors who died of starvation, disease, or being eaten alive by wolves." Activist: "At least that's natural." Farmer: "Natural death is being disemboweled while conscious. My cattle get a bolt gun they never see. Which would you choose?" Activist: "That's not the point." Farmer: "That's entirely the point. You're romanticizing brutal deaths while condemning quick ones."

A good rule of thumb on X is, the more bots oppose you, the righter you are.
Transient Meteor@transientmeteor

@GeorgeSelgin Deflation is FAR WORSE than inflation. It makes debt more expensive, sticky nominal wages don’t like to decrease leading to unemployment, saving becomes more appealing which leads to less economic activity and more deflation, etc. People who like deflation have deflated brains.

I am an Austrian School economist, and I believe that the core of economic theory is a priori. I am an anarcho-capitalist and a follower of Rothbard's economic theories. However, this does not mean I oppose Hayek's practical spirit in political reform, nor does it mean I oppose using quantitative methods to analyze current economic problems and make practical contributions to global freedom. I believe in learning by doing. I do not believe that what is self-deduced from a utopian world is a universal truth.
