Sheila Gregoire--She Deserves Better is here!
We need to become the kind of church where, if an adult man says that they find a 12-year-old’s developing body to be a stumbling block-- we stop handing the 12-year-old a sweater, and we start freaking out at the adult man.

@LidsRodney So my trick is to use swan and duck floating pellets… I also find they turn their nose up at greens but I think maybe because they naturally get them in the pond.

@LidsRodney England-old wives tale that going out with wet hair would give you a cold…one of the ladies at my work in my teens was in her 60s and always scolded me…other (younger) staff didn’t blink

Autistic people may immediately say “no” or become distressed when a change of plan is suggested, regardless of whether it’s objectively better/necessary. We aren’t tying to be difficult; our brain has perceived a threat and gone into survival mode. This is the “fight” response.

If you think people who fake autism are taking resources away from autistic adults, you’re overestimating the amount of resources autistic adults are getting

To answer some of your questions: - No I’m not “Rishi Sunak’s cat” - I live here permanently, politicians are temporary residents - Some of them very temporary - I agree, he’s not off to a great start - No, I’ve not found his wallet. Yet.

If a patient tells you that they have read about it and they are convinced they are autistic then proceed with the assumption that they are. There are far more autistic people being jammed like square pegs into round holes than there are people pretending to be autistic 34/

Explore why they saw these professionals. You’ll probably find lots to support the fact that they are autistic, with the benefit of hindsight. The next trap to avoid is thinking that their personality disorder/mental illness/trauma “explains everything” 14/

Autistics regularly get misdiagnosed with things like EUPD, but even if it is not a misdiagnosis the patient could still be autistic. Trauma & autism go hand in hand, which is a huge thread tin itself, but if they have a history of trauma it is MORE likely they’re autistic 15/

The US has killed 10 people in 2 drone strikes in Somalia over the last week. One of the drone strikes was on a market. It has barely registered in any English-language media.

Idk guys I think an innocent use of "wow that's crazy!" is way less harmful to mentally ill people than the explicit dehumanisation of us you all constantly engage in and the lack of treatment options but I guess it's easier to tweet about that than actually do something 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m a tick box, not a human being. A chore to squidge in, not a set appointment time. I’m argumentative when I’m just asking questions to understand what’s going on. I’m a drain on resources. I’m an interesting case for a trainee GP to see bc of my history. I’m a thing, not human

Last year I met with a mother holding her diabetic toddler in her lap. She had one ask — that the lifesaving insulin she needs to keep her daughter alive not cost her over $400 a month. Shame on all the Republican senators that just blocked the $35 a month cap for insulin.

@CaraLisette Honestly how I deal is that I ask if they are managing okay/struggling with food prep. I think in wider terms - if ppl can afford to buy food, if ppl aren’t getting social care needed for safely preparing food, the heat etc Only bring up weight concern if asked why I ask

Interesting question someone asked me recently. Lots of us who have experienced eating disorders talk a lot about not talking about peoples weight. How do we navigate that if we are concerned about someone relapsing/developing an eating disorder as this can clearly be a symptom?
