Before X payout Match #1, I wanted to do something for the people following this series. The team at @cardedgolfapp reached out and wanted to support it by giving away a dozen Pro V1x’s to one of you. To enter: - Follow @BigSwingTempo + @cardedgolfapp - Reply with the friend you’d challenge to a match and the charity you’d be playing for. - Repost for an extra entry. If you’re looking for a simple way to track your rounds, rank the courses you’ve played, and save golf memories, check out the new app, Carded: Your Golf Journal, on the App Store (link in their bio). Winner announced after X payout Match #1. Appreciate Carded for helping support the series. Good luck. ⛳️

While I enjoy YouTube golf, I don’t like the hater series style content. It’s like feeding a dog that’s begging at your feet while you’re eating dinner. You’re rewarding behavior you should be discouraging. It might be entertaining, but we don’t need more of it.

Probably my best competitive golf tournament accomplishment to date is playing in a 2 man-best ball tournament at my old club. My partner had to drop out halfway through the season, so I played solo against two sticks. I was able to make it through hole 14 before finally losing. We were all square after 9. And for some reason, it still really irks me that I lost that match 8 years later.

@BigSwingTempo Oh for sure. I love golf for that. I'm rooting for my opponent while I play. But if my kids grow up to be Lakers fans or 49ers fans, I might have to disown them... 😛

@AverageJerdin 😂😂 love it. idk it’s a hard topic for me. I’m a diehard Vikings fan, but I still want to see the other teams do well. I want to beat other people at their best

I find it strange when people genuinely hate professional athletes based on factors that aren’t criminal. You see it all the time in golf. People hate Bryson. People hate Rory. I don’t really get it. I like both for different reasons. I’m a Vikings fan, but I’ve always liked plenty of Packers players too. Rivalries are fun. Actually hating someone because of their team, tour, or brand affiliation has always felt weird to me. It’s even worse in golf it seems. Sometimes it feels like fans hate athletes more for wearing the “wrong” logo than they do for doing something that’s actually morally reprehensible.

@BigSwingTempo @brasscogg I found that my switching to a less forgiving iron as a high handicap. I have to learn ball striking. Yes I performed worse for a while but now my ball striking is vastly improved.

@brasscogg I definitely agree. I wasn’t saying high handicappers should play blades. I was saying there’s a huge middle ground. Not being a single-digit handicap doesn’t automatically mean game-improvement irons are the right choice.

It’s probably not a great idea to play the payout donation Match #1 on a course I’ve never played. Especially when it’s a course @MattDeLuca frequents. So this morning I played a practice round to get a baseline and take some notes. Shot a 92. I think I can shave a few strokes off with better club selection. Probably not going to use driver. It’s a tighter course than I’m used to, and the extra 30-40 yards isn’t worth it if I can’t stay on or close to the fairway. First 6 holes are brutal. Need to power through those. Stats and round notes below:

@realJarNod Send me yours when you have it. I have a connections already and I’m reaching out to other content creators to see about filming. I was more hesitant prior to reaching a scratch handicap but that helped my confidence immensely

I'm debating starting a golf youtube channel. I know it's oversaturated, but I would do it because it would keep me accountable to the steps I want to take in order to become a plus handicap.

@BigSwingTempo When I've gotten into mini slumps, I treat it like I would as a shooter in basketball. Go back to the basics. Grip, how far from the ball. Ball placement, etc. Make sure those are correct and then get back to making good contact.

One of the most interesting topics in golf for me is how every golfer goes through slumps. Not the fact that people get in slumps, but *how* they get themselves out. Is there a process to minimize the damage? Or is it just something you have to wait out? We all know getting pissed and discouraged doesn’t help, even though it’s almost impossible not to feel that way. So I like thinking about it from the other direction: What process can I build for myself to not only get out of a slump faster, but also learn from it so I don’t completely unravel? Is it mentality? Swing fixes? Course management? For me, I think it’s a combination of figuring out what feels off, working on it off the course, then letting go and committing when I’m playing. How do you get yourself out of a slump?

@realJarNod Great reason to do it. Don’t worry about the saturation, it’s all about how you measure your success. Accountability to yourself as you grow is way more important than followers, $$ or fame. Do it, I will subscribe

You can tell a lot about a golfer's relationship with their dad by how they talk about their golf game. Good relationship, a bad shot is just a bad shot, there is not value tied to it. Bad relationship, a bad shot is a mistake that needs a full explanation. The best players in the world have learned to not internalize mistakes. Internalizing mistakes is often a learned behavior from the most important relationships in our lives.
