Very happy to the direction the whole aviation plugin ecosystem that we are working on at @_FLYGHT7 is taking. A bit longer explanation than anticipated but it does provide a good intro to the obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) plugin. Automation is going well.

Plugin is far from perfect, but qOLS is starting to look a lot like something that is able to be used for obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) creation according to ICAO standards. Needs more effort to make it better but not bad for just starting out an opensource project

@DaveWallsworth My first computer…a PET. Started programming at school using punched cards and paper, still programming today developing aviation tools for other developers 🛫

During a recent discussion about computers I was asked what my earliest memories of them are. I remember my dad taking me around the section of Scunthorpe steelworks he managed and showing me a huge computer room which controlled the bloom and billet mill. The computer was programmed using a set of punchcards. I wonder what its computing power was compared to today’s machines?! The first computer I used myself was an Apple II Europlus at school, followed by a Sinclair ZX80 then ZX81 with a massive 1kb of RAM and a huge 16kg expansion pack added to the rear. The first computer we owned as a family was the groundbreaking BBC Micro Model A. This had 16kb of RAM included. We couldn’t afford the Model B with 32kb of RAM so I spent the next few months being paid to do jobs like cleaning cars in order to save up enough money to buy the 8, 2kb memory chips from Watford Electronics so we could upgrade it to a Model B and access the better graphics modes. This was also the computer I used to create my first computer game. A version of Cluedo which, as a teenager, I was very proud of when it was published in the UK magazine Personal Computer World as an example of string handling. 😄 What were your first computer memories?

We didn't notice this was an option! We just figure it out and very happy with it. What a great touch from the QGIS project to provide this to make it easier to demonstrate we are authorized to provide QGIS training.

@antoniolocandro AutoCAD will report when opening a DWG if the drawing was not saved by AutoCAD.

Best AUTOCAD replacement that can edit DWG and be compatible with AutoCAD directly? Preferably cheap and perpetual license. It really needs to be able to edit DWG, I have opened files in AutoCAD where it complains not created using it so there must be something out there

BricsCAD seems to do the trick and pricing is not crazy, may consider it but if there are other alternatives would be interested to know

I can’t seem to get where the AutoCAD map 3D tool is, everywhere I read it say it’s included. I’m using the trial version to test but I cant get it to work 🫠 I’m that bad in CAD
