The image below shows two flags. The one on the right is the SNM flag, which is only slightly different from the current Somaliland flag. The one on the left is the earlier SL flag that was used between 1991 and 1996. In 1996, SL changed its flag to the one that is known today.

What a brilliant idea 😂 An even smarter and far more cost-effective solution would have been to use the existing MFA website (mfa.govsomaliland.org) and add a diaspora link. That would’ve cost maybe a few hundred $$ in extra space and a small update. But hey… who’s asking?

@AbdisalamYassi1 The first people to refer to themselves as Somali was the Sultans of Berbera in their agreement with the UK. Barri-Samaale = برّ سمَالي = Somaliland. Italia then labelled it's colony down south "Somalia" hoping to capture both, and that's how Somalia become Somalized.

This is an appropriate critique to a serious issue that needs to be questioned and researched deeply. Let's start with the name Somali. Who or what is Somali? Is it a person, a language, or something else? What's its origin? It's necessary to ask these questions and find answers.
