The first book came out in 1997 and was for children. Even the finale was written for teens who had aged into the books as Harry et al grew up. The movies were only a few years behind. Many “fans” are almost 40. LotR was written for adults, so taking them seriously makes sense. It was Perter Jackson who made them more youth-oriented for general audiences. Adults who pay for HBO to watch an adaptation of a children’s book series 25ish years after the fact are super sus imo.
