Next week world leaders will meet at #UNGA. @WHO’s highlight will be the High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health on 25 September. Noncommunicable diseases include 7 of the world’s top 10 causes of death. In addition, almost 1 billion people face mental health conditions. Countries that act decisively to #BeatNCDs will save millions of lives, protect families, cut health costs, and unlock economic growth.

Returning to graduate school after many years and after navigating a rough, uncertain journey was one of the hardest things I’ve done. Imposter syndrome often felt like an unmovable mountain. But by the grace of the Lord and the support of those who believed in me, I have reached this incredible milestone. Grateful beyond words!

Country leadership takes the lion share to achieve sustainable health financing, & universal health coverage. However, it is a responsibility of the global community to narrow the gaps. Transition from development assistance should be gradual & strategic. linkedin.com/posts/harvardc…

I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Vice Chair for Global Health at Medical University of South Carolina! This is an inaugural position that will create and develop a global health unit or program within the Department of Public Health Sciences at MUSC. The Vice Chair office will coordinate with the MUSC Center for Global Health @MUSC_CGH to provide guidance on global partnerships for education and research. I am also honored to report that I got a pilot grant for my global health research in the Tigray region of Ethiopia to assess impact of mobile health interventions in women’s and children’s health.  @PublicHealth @MedUnivSC @ayder_hospital @AksumHospi4940 @AmstatNews @APHAPeaceCaucus @Tigrai_TV @W7VOA @VOAAfrica @hayelomkahsay1 @WHO @stats_feed @PJTinter @GezanaBBT @EthiopiaInsight @HPN4Tigray @BurbridgeDuke @mukeshkapila @umasalam

🌍 Decolonizing Global Public Health: A Roundtable Discussion ✊🏽 Last month, the Miami Institute hosted an engaging virtual roundtable to explore what it means to decolonize global public health. 🩺 Inspired by David McCoy’s essay, “An Anti-Colonial Agenda for the Decolonisation of Global Health” (October 5, 2023), the discussion also featured contributors who responded to his work: @tschrecker, Mark Padilla , @sridhartweet, and @mmatshilomotsei 🎥 Watch the full discussion and join the movement for a more equitable global health system. 📺 Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=rvl8Wv… #UNU #GlobalHealth #PowerAndAccountability #DecolonizeGlobalHealth #HealthEquity

Expectations for researchers: 1️⃣ To be transparent about choices we make 2️⃣ To not be extractive - we are often trying to answer questions we have, not the learning needs of people 3️⃣ Research for people served 4️⃣ Transformation 📚➡️ academic.oup.com/heapol/article… #HSR2024

A powerful moment during #HSRPlenary 2 at #HSR2024: a minute of silence to honour those affected by ongoing conflicts worldwide. A poignant reminder of the urgent need for inclusive, resilient health systems that uphold dignity and equity in the face of adversity. 🌍🕊️
