Big discovery on Rotten Tomatoes for The Odyssey. The real audience score is sitting at 56%, not the fake 97% they’re showing with their “Verified Audience” bullshit. A r/KotakuInAction user figured out how to see the actual numbers behind RT’s manipulation. Exactly what we’ve been saying. Real people are dragging this butchered mess, but Rotten Tomatoes is bending over backwards to protect it. Classic.

I know text diffs use LCS algo because I have actual experience implementing this in the past but I won't fucking ever be able to implement it without internet of the top of my head WHAT THE FUCK

This Reddit post claiming THE ODYSSEY’s “real” Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 56% is making the rounds. What they did was remove more than 7,000 verified ratings, calculate the score using the 886 unverified ratings left over, and then declare that tiny group the “real audience.” Rotten Tomatoes has used Verified Audience as its default metric since 2019. Those people bought tickets and still chose to rate the movie. You can dislike Fandango prompting them...I do...but a notification doesn’t remove their agency or make their opinions fake. You can’t throw out almost 90% of the ratings because they didn’t give you the result you wanted and call what remains the truth. This isn’t exposing Rotten Tomatoes. It’s exposing the fact that you didn’t pass sixth-grade math.

@AzulAether @mjarbo This distinction makes zero sense. There’s no logic to the idea that people being prompted to leave a review after having bought a ticket are more likely to have a positive opinion. It’s not like they screen for a positive opinion of the movie before sending a notification.

Rotten Tomatoes just permanently torched its credibility. The Odyssey: 97% audience score. “Beating LOTR: Return of the King.” Meanwhile both other major review platforms for Odyssey are: Metacritic users: 5.3. Letterboxd: 4.3. You don’t get a 50-point gap between platforms unless someone’s curating the numbers. The score isn’t a rating anymore, it’s become an ad slot for the highest bidder.

There's just no way the actual audience rating is 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic has the movie at a 5.3/10 user score, Letterboxd has it at 4.3 and IMDB has it at 8.3/10. Rotten Tomatoes is removing negative reviews at the behest of the studio.
