Saturday, 14 March is the Bone Cancer Research Trust’s 20th Anniversary! 🧡 To honour our community, tomorrow at 9am, we’re launching a new campaign that puts your memories at its very heart. We can’t wait to share this with you! 🧡 #UntilTheresACure

At every show this tour, I’m collecting money for @BCRT. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve raised over £8000 after the first few shows. Added to the money from last year that’s over £23,000! Because it’s so rare, there’s very little research into bone cancer. The sort I had, a chordoma, affects 1 in a million people. The BCRT are trying to find a cure for bone cancer so that people don’t have to have the life changing surgery that I had. If you come and see me this year there’ll be volunteers collecting after the shows. They’re amazing people who’ve got personal experience of the brutality of bone cancer. Last night in Buxton I met Kate. She lost her husband Kyle to bone cancer in 2023. Since then she’s raised £55,000. Happy (is that the right word?) World Cancer Day! In August 2023 I was diagnosed with chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer. A few weeks later I was carved open at the phenomenal Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. I had the base of my spine removed and was in a hospital bed for ten weeks. Recovery was painful and brutal at times but I loved my stay there. I’ll always be grateful to the surgeons, nurses, physios, cleaners, volunteers, doctors and all the other experts who helped me get back on my feet. Here are a few photos of my stay. 1. The Tilt Table. Because of my wounds I couldn’t go from lying to standing without bursting. So they slid me onto this face down and raised me up like a cannon. I could then, despite huge wounds front and back, get upright and walk. God I loved it. I felt like I was going to get blasted into space. 2. Sunshine. Getting wheeled outside for the first time, to feel the sun and air on my skin was heaven, was one of the best feelings of my life. The whole experience has made me really value physical comfort. Yes, I’m now into cushions. 3 and 4. An Oasis of calm. I was very lucky to have great people around me, including @NoelGallagher and @liamgallagher who came every day and even got dressed up at Christmas. I’m now proud to be an ambassador of the @thernohcharity, who ensure the hospital has the very best equipment and resources. And I’m delighted to be an ambassador for the @BCRT who are trying to find a cure for bone cancer so that people don’t have to have the life changing surgery I had. But they’d miss out on using the tilt table, so swings and roundabouts.
