Crypto didn't go mainstream. Gambling did. @nigeleccles from @BetHog on the Modern Market today. "What I've seen over the last three years is the crypto culture has gone more mainstream, even though I don't know if crypto has. What I am seeing is the culture of speculation and betting and gambling going mainstream. Prediction markets, sports betting, options trading. Loot boxes, pack rips. Even with my daughter, we play Roblox and I'm seeing gambling mechanics going mainstream. Variable rewards is a proven mechanic. It's the fundamental mechanic of a slot machine. And we're now seeing it across consumer products. Gambling is and can be addictive. Do we really want to push these gambling mechanics on consumers who didn't ask to be gamblers? I love prediction markets. I've launched four of them. But whenever they're marketed as a way to make money, a way to get ahead, that is really concerning. You shouldn't market a gambling product as a financial instrument for advancement. That to me is fundamentally unethical."
