@peter_adderton @mobileXus I don’t think it’s shortsighted. They’re trying to extinguish the independent MVNO’s before the big 3 jack prices up endlessly.

Metro and the other carrier “value brands” are playing a short-sighted game. They load up on port-in promos for “new customers only”… but those customers just come to @mobileXus grab a number, pay a toll (which we make 100% margin on), and then bounce straight back to claim the deal. While they’re high-fiving in the sales conference room, thinking they’ve won… The only people actually high-fiving are me and our CFO.🤣

@peter_adderton Great analysis. How do you feel companies like Visible and Metro which are owned by one of the big 3? Do you believe they get advantages which are unfair for others, and makes it nearly impossible for new companies to come into play.

The data shows that truly unlimited high-speed plans are never sustainable for MVNOs. Any MVNO still offering them is essentially running a ‘grow at any cost’ model, where revenue from new customers subsidizes the existing base. That only works as long as subscriber growth stays rapid and that’s a dangerous game. Eventually you’re forced to keep raising capital, and that kind of growth-at-all-costs mindset is exactly what PE firms should avoid. Some MVNO CEOs love to talk about revenue growth, which is easy in the prepaid space. Profitability, however, is a very different story.

@JimJackson88502 @stetsondoggett It does. It’s really just roaming on all 3 plus some regional carriers. Latency and speed aren’t great and the switching isn’t perfect, but they’re still in testing
