Since the fire tenants have been laboring mutual aid for displaced tenants, disabled tenants who have lost access to their elevators, and anyone who’s full humanity is being suppressed by the billionaire landlords failure to address the issues arising because of the fire.

Because of the systems already in place through the TA, tenants were able to fill the gaps of intentional management neglect with their solidarity and collective action.

Since August 2023 tenants have been meeting regularly. On May 4th there was an fire in the 545 building of their complex that has displaced and or drastically endangered the quality of habitability of roughly 70 tenants.

At noon today tenants from the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital Tenants Association (BED-TU Local 89) staged a walk-in on their management company. Given the circumstances (a midday action on a weekday with only one day of prep and outreach) there was a great turnout.
