I don’t think wealth taxes are a good idea in practice, and they’re definitely dumb at the state level.

So, no, most of them are not “living paycheck to paycheck” in any traditional sense of the term. They’re maxing out their 401k accounts, funding large amounts into savings and brokerage accounts, and growing their net worth every year. They’re just not doing it uniformly across every paycheck throughout the year.

This is actually correct, the "green tunnel" Interstates are far, far more boring than the "cornfield" Interstates. Anyone who's ever done the drive from Utica to Buffalo on NYS I-90 knows what I am saying. Once you get past exit 31, the drive is hauntingly boring for hours. At least in Kansas, you can see for miles, and it's sort of wistful and contemplative.
