@BHubb311 Love how that technology piece is creating opportunities like this that we may not have had before! Or at least making them easier in our current situation.

A8: We had a zoom meeting with a couple teachers from another school. It was a great way to connect and share ideas. #SPSMathChat

A6: Manipulatives are vital in helping my kinders understand the difference between addition and subtraction. They are physically able to move the pieces to show their thinking and understanding. #SPSMathChat

@CaityLarson YES! Manipulatives help me to truly 'see' my student's thinking. It's hard to do that on a device.

@BHubb311 Manipulatives are just as powerful tools though!! And I think should be more utilized at higher grade-levels too when technology can tend to 'take over'! #SPSMathChat

A5: I gotta be honest....at the kindergarten level we use lots of manipulatives to share our thinking. Technology isn't a big part of math for us. #SPSMathChat

A4: Experience math ourselves, feel the struggle, and the level of uncertainty our students feel. Shift our mindsets from how we view math as routine and procedure to being open to various approaches. Shift the focus from teaching page by page to Ss leading. #SPSMathChat

A4: Time with experienced teachers. Anytime I can bounce ideas with someone else who is "in the trenches with me" I feel like I gain so many ideas! I love to talk to colleagues. #SPSMathChat

A3: I think @IllustrateMath is helpful with this! Today in class we solved two problems...but the discussion and thinking was so much more! I agree getting all the standards in can feel overwhelming, but we should focus on quality over quantity. #SPSMathChat

A2: I think I would remind them that baby steps are okay. It takes time (and a classroom family) to build a community where kids can participate in discourse, take risks and make mistakes. #SPSMathChat
