🤼♂️💪 We spent the weekend at one of the tougher wrestling tournaments in the country, Beast of the East, hosted at The University of Delaware in Newark, DE. 🔥🏆
👀🌟 For those not familiar, only a couple other tournaments are even similar but there simply isn't a higher caliber of competition in high school wrestling. You're competing next to and frequently against kids ranked top 20, top 10, and even #1 in the country! 😤👑
🚀👏 My high school junior, Carter Lanzilli (@carter_lanzilli), had himself a weekend and competed great. He came away with a winning record of 3-2, including a great takedown on the #10 ranked kid in country. 💥🏅
🧠🔥 The key takeaway though is I noticed he leveled himself up mentally, with the help of Coach Joe Regan of RHS Wrestling. I'd be remiss to not also mention Coach Grant Paswall of GPS Wrestling. These guys are surgeons of the sport. 🏆⚡
🌟🥉 My 7th grader, Joey Lanzilli (@joey_blaze8) also of GPS Wrestling, got to compete in Junior Beast, a separate tournament for youth wrestlers. He went 4-1, with his only loss being a 1st round super tight match that went to OT. He then went and took home 3rd place. 👊💪
🤩⭐ The highlight of his weekend though, may have been meeting the current #1 ranked wrestler in the country and Virginia Tech commit, Bo Bassett (pictured). 🙌🔥
🤒😷 My college freshman, Lorenzo Lanzilli (@lozolanz13), should have been in Reno, LV wrestling with his college team, The Emmanuel Saints under Coach Nick Avery, another surgeon, at The Dollamur Reno Tournament of Champions.
🚑💔 Unfortunately, when the flu travels those dorms it spreads like wild fire. It took him out of competition this weekend but we're thoroughly tracking, watching, and rooting for The Saints from afar! 📣❤️
🥹🙏 TL;DR it was a great weekend where hard work paid off and visible growth was realized. I'm appreciative, humbled, & thankful my 3 boys get to compete at these levels, alongside such great coaches and friends.🙏 My wife, Brenda Lanzilli (@blanzilli), was a rockstar at organizing food, schedules, & travel. 🙏♥️
