This is a fascinating paper in the current edition of @Eurosurveillanc carried out by public health colleagues in @UKHSA It relates to the journey towards a large STEC\VTEC outbreak in the UK in 2022. It’s really relevant to the Irish experience because we have one of the highest rates of STEC in Europe, but we don’t routinely have access to these types of environmental surveillance tools for our investigations. However, the story of this outbreak is reflected in our experience here….that climate change, overfarming and lack of access to mains water outside Dublin are all causing human disease….

Unfortunately not attending #ISOPOL (Somebody has to keep the lab running 🤪) but delighted to see our poster on display, showcasing the importance of WGS on #Listeria surveillance 🧫

@Anais_Painset Honestly I can’t wait for WGS to become routine for C. perfringens (and then Bacillus!) - fAFLP is very time consuming and not cost effective for the resolution of data you get at the end 😅

@BMS_Sacha Let's hope it's working else I will be very happy to help with WGS 😁 I am just a paired-fastq away!

Today I defrosted and used primers for fAFLP received by my section in 2015! I was only just starting my undergraduate degree then 🤯 Can’t wait to see if they work 🤭

@NocardiB 2015 indeed! I’m surprised that they’ve survived probably several freezers and many scheduled defrosts 🤭
