@ianvisits Thanks for posting these fascinating pictures, Ian. We are working on the restoration of Richmond Station, which shares some of the fabulous interior detailing seen at Wimbledon. Next time you are at Richmond, note the newly cleaned stone facade! - Benny

@SwkHeritage A really fine building. There were two fine RACS buildings in Peckham, 176-8 Rye Lane, now mutilated, the bigger department store at the south end of Rye Lane, demolished a decade ago. The conservation battle continues!

Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society store, Walworth Rd, c1963 whose interior was designed by RACS staff, opened on 25 Nov 1960. It also contained ‘listening booths’ for music lovers. The RACS was started by workers at the Royal Arsenal munitions factory at Woolwich in 1868.

@RogerBowdler Such a fine ensemble. Much admired by me during my years at Grimshaws when we restored the three spans and the Lawn Area at Paddington in 1999. The thick knitted scarf on the soldier almost hints at a belt of machine gun bullets. String stuff.

The mighty CS Jagger’s GWR war memorial: moving monumental bronze soldier set against handsome aedicular surround by TS Tait. Unveiled 1921. Cleverly integrated with MD Wyatt’s supervisor’s office on platform 1 of Paddington Station. Shame about that dratted signage.

Peckham Rye station restoration topped out with golden finials ➡️ ianvisits.co.uk/articles/peckh… A couple of weeks ago, the front of Peckham Rye station was uncovered for the first time in over a year, as a major restoration of the Victorian station nears its completion.

@QuintinLake McFarlanes’s Saracen Ironworks, was in Possil Park, Glasgow. We believe the Charles Henry Driver-designed ironwork at Peckham Rye Station was cast there too! Perhaps the greatest iron foundry in Britain,

@ejngee Thomas Brock & Aston Webb’s Victoria Memorial is one of the finest architectural settings in the Capital We love Beaux Arts London. Public spirited, educational, beautiful. The New Sculpture movement really delivers. Sweet Baroque Revival is what’s needed in these difficult times

@alisonmkrae That’s an incredible photo Alison. Is the view looking south? What is the chimney and ‘works’ in the background? A church on the far left? Thanks for sharing. b

@FlipLondonTours On the subject of ABC tea rooms, check the ‘Dairy Express’ tea room mosaic we recently found at Findlater’s Corner, London Bridge. Love a cup of tea and a sandwich!
