All in all, thoughts about today's severe thunderstorm risk verified quite well The setup was nothing more than marginal with heavy rain being the main threat There was one isolated storm with severe wind gusts near #Bayfield As we head into storm season, please, please, be careful of the misinformation that is floating around out there To advertise "several tornadoes" and "up to EF2 strength" was downright reckless with a setup like today Don't believe all the doom and gloom posts out there that simply get posted for clicks/ engagement #OnWX #ONStorm

For any Canadian chasers wondering, I did a quick analysis using lightning data and found these areas which will likely be Canadian severe weather hotspots in 2026. I'd expect lots of tree chasing this season, with one or two good setups near the SK/MB/ND border in June.

Wondering if this funnel cloud north of Newton Il around 3:55 PM on Feb 19th was on the ground. Radar looks somewhat convincing for being in a radar hole. I see a couple other reports in that area as well. Has @NWSLincolnIL found any evidence of a touchdown?

@AdamLucioWX We saw a little of the convergence but we just bypassed it using other roads available. Most of the day we got ourselves setup in spots all to ourselves. Lots of spotter dots on the map but lots of available real estate in the target zone for those of us who prefer the peace lol

Already convergence and ethics debates from a weekday February chase in IL. 2026 is going to throw down hard. I’m not sure if I’m a good or bad chaser cause once again I saw very little of the crowds yesterday. Only for a couple minutes during an “only road option” squeeze. You CAN do your own thing out there, just a thought.

Long-track supercell potential increasing southeast Illinois into Indiana - ENHANCED RISK now including the threat of a strong #tornado! Timing is noon - 8 pm from west-to-east across this risk area. New short-range forecast models open up a large warm sector with a 50 knot southwesterly low-level jet overtop 60F dew points. Supercells will fire in southern Illinois and ride the gradient of the higher moisture with all hazards possible! Stay tuned to severe weather watches and warnings in this risk area
