@BReguided Pretty sure in January 1945 Germany still held a considerable chunk of territory in Central Europe, the Nazi Party still had teeth to bite if you didn't toe the line

@BanditosMilan @nikicaga Worst thing that would have happened was that his path on the career ladder would be more difficult. He wouldn’t have been shot or sent to a camp for not joining the party - it didn’t work like that.

@BReguided @nikicaga Not joining would signal that you don’t think the party would last long which would be perceived as defeatism and wouldn’t have ended well for him. Especially in the frenzy of 1945

@col_scoob @OssiBisZumEnde You’re absolutely right BUT not joining the Nazi party wouldn’t have you shot or imprisoned. It would almost certainly impede your professional career but you could still work in many professions as a non party member.

@BReguided @OssiBisZumEnde Well thats the thing, early on there were anti nazis around, but after a few months into the war, any dissenters would be imprisoned or otherwise have their lives ruined.

Some real fucking idiots in the replies here, so let me explain something: 50% of doctors in Germany were members of the Nazi party. Guess what the other 50% were? Not Nazis & Still doctors Joining the party was a CHOICE either because you believed OR for career advancement

@BReguided No but iirc they'd prevent you from graduating for example, especially with him studying law. Just saying a guy joining the party in 1945 doesn't mean he believed that shit. Probably knew the war was ending soon, and just tried to get through it by any means necessary
