@SAshworthHayes A number of people have made this point, and I think it's valid.
English

"Henry told us he was stabbed but the man who stabbed him said he didn't, so we reverted to post-2020 programming and put the dying white kid in handcuffs" is not the exculpatory explanation you think it is
Hampshire Police@HantsPolice
@smg1664 Our officers were misled at the scene, including denial of weapon use. They quickly switched to life-saving aid within minutes but, as laid out in our statement, the medical evidence shows that the injuries were not survivable. A very sad case, our thoughts are with his family.
English

@replicant2097 Americans (at least some of the ones who post on here) seem to believe practically anything, so honestly I'm not surprised.
English

@ScotlandTheGr8 @FlamingMonocle Yes, fair enough - I know Scotland's different (especially the highlands).
English

@BSmallpiece @FlamingMonocle And we do invest in them but we prioritise keeping key routes open. It would be stupid to spend a lot of money on something that's not going to be used as much
English

This. Not because Britons are contrarians, or looking for solutions, but because complaining is quite literally a national pastime.
Best response is to agree and follow up with another widely-accepted common complaint.
"It's too hot"
"Yeah, and ice creams are bloody expensive"
The Petrichory@The_Petrichory
English

@ScotlandTheGr8 @FlamingMonocle Yes, it's the same with snow. Our roads are impassable during periods of heavy snowfall because we don't get 60 days of snow a year on average such as, for example, Quebec City does; so we don't think it's worth it for us to invest in snow plows.
English

@FlamingMonocle Yes, we could get AC...but we only normally get like a week or two of really hot weather. The rest of the time it's pretty mild or cold. So we *could* spend a few thousand getting AC fitted into our houses or just moan and get on with it for a brief time
English

@AphrahAshe @FlamingMonocle We also have old buildings that can't be retrofitted with A/C units without breaching their listing status.
English

@FlamingMonocle We do like to complain, but getting AC isn't as reasonable as Americans seem to think. They're not common here so they're expensive, and we also have sky-high electric bills. Our windows don't open the same way, and they would need to be stored 350+ days of the year.
English

@93vintagejones @sneednahalba Hi Tom,
Close but not quite. The actual question he was asked was whether or not he could enforce segregation. It's probably on Youtube somewhere.
English

@sneednahalba Underpriced how bad it was. The police chief in Birmingham Alabama, Bull Connor, once told the press "I may not be able to stop the Civil Rights movement, but I'll die trying".
English

Were the races reversed, this could be a story from the Jim Crow South that became a cause célèbre of the Civil Rights movement.
pagliacci the hated 🌝@Slatzism
“police arrest man who is bleeding to death because the stabber claimed he was racist” its literally impossible to satirize the UK anymore. even the most extreme, hamfisted memes are just real things that actually happen now
English

@HighRise202233 @upthejunction28 You've got 40 times the area we have for only five times the population. If you weren't richer than us there'd be something wrong.
English

@upthejunction28 The UK is poorer than every single state in America. Shut your broke ass up.
English

@bagshaw2112 George Harrison with "My Sweet Lord" at No 1 - must be 1971 :)
English

@SuzieHasTwins @bikeanddogtrips I had a cup of tea at 12 am - luckily no one saw me
English

@bikeanddogtrips I don’t even like tea but I don’t take chances with that
English

Completely true. I opened my window yesterday and armed police shot and killed me.
Nina@ShakeLS
Is it true that you can't open your window in the UK? Apparently it's illegal?? Seriously?
English

@dvarets @ronsterd89 "In The Summertime" was them but "The Pushbike Song" was someone else (the Mixtures).
English

@ronsterd89 I remember the lead singer's sideburns, wasn't one song In the Summer time and another the Push bike song.
English

@pieceofmind03 @studog66 I like Chinatown, not sure about Renegade.
English

@studog66 I think it’s definitely stronger than Chinatown and Renegade.
English

@JVMonte2 Nazareth in 1979. Probably past their best but put on a good show with an amazing finale with the Yardbirds' "Shapes Of Things".
English

@VintageRockN_85 Chalk and cheese, you can't compare them. They both have their place.
English

@PlainOfBlood @kelly_ques I know. My point wasn't to minimise emotional suffering but to point out how bad physical suffering can be.
English

@BSmallpiece @kelly_ques euphemism /yoo͞′fə-mĭz″əm/
noun
A figure in which a harsh or indelicate word or expression is softened; a way of describing an offensive thing by an inoffensive expression; a mild name for something disagreeable.
English

@VintageRockN_85 Hard to say, because there are some songs I only like when I'm in the mood. One of "Electric Funeral", "Children Of The Grave" or "Spiral Architect",
English

@AtomicKnightV @TheGriftReport That's a fair point - a lot of people genuinely do seem to think there's not only safety but rightness in numbers.
English

@TheGriftReport My first response was FAFO but the yellow sign looks small and some (especially others coming later) may have automatically assumed it was OK as they saw other cars. Sadly, some cars would have parked with their windows partly cracked open. First arrivals deserved it though.

Furious farmer sprays dozens of luxury cars with thick cow slurry after drivers ignored signs and illegally parked in his field during the scorching Bank Holiday heatwave.
The chaos unfolded near Rydal Water in the Lake District, Cumbria, where at least 20 vehicles, including Mercedes, Jaguars and BMWs, were left covered in manure.
Clear signs reading “Polite Notice, DO NOT PARK IN THE FIELD” and “SHEEP IN FIELD” were completely ignored, with drivers even moving rocks that had been placed to block access.
The farmer drove his slurry tanker up and down the field, calmly hosing down every car in the baking heat.
Cumbria Police have confirmed they were called and are investigating, but many locals are saying the drivers got exactly what they deserved.
Classic case of “park like an idiot, pay the price.”
Do you think he did the right thing?

English

@PlainOfBlood @kelly_ques I've had both, and I wouldn't like to say which is worse but I will say that being hauled onto a scanning trolley when you've just broken a leg is a lot more than "discomfort".
English

@kelly_ques In my opinion, genuine, deep, emotional pain is far worse than any physical discomfort.
