SENATE PASSES CBDC BAN IN BIPARTISAN HOUSING BILL The US Senate has overwhelmingly passed legislation that includes a ban on the development of a US CBDC. The provision was attached to the sweeping 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which cleared the Senate Thursday in a rare bipartisan vote of 89–10. Under the bill, the US would be prohibited from developing a CBDC until 2031. However, the ban is not law yet. The housing bill must still pass the House of Representatives, where lawmakers have already raised objections to parts of the legislation. Even if both chambers pass the bill, the timeline remains uncertain. President Donald Trump has reportedly threatened to withhold signing legislation until Congress passes the SAVE Act, a controversial voting reform proposal. According to Punchbowl News, Trump recently told House Speaker Mike Johnson that “no one gives a [bleep] about housing,” further complicating the bill’s path to becoming law.
