I don't care whether you want to fork Bitcoin to save endangered raccoons or protect children from bullying. The cause is irrelevant. Bitcoin's golden social rule is simple: if you try to fork Bitcoin without broad consensus, you lose—and you must lose decisively. That rule is what makes Bitcoin resilient. Without it, Bitcoin becomes vulnerable to misinformation, false-flag campaigns, manufactured outrage, and social extortion. It fractures, corrodes, and eventually collapses. If there is no broad consensus, there should be no fork date. Setting a deadline for a contentious fork is not coordination—it's extortion.

@DrJackKruse Honestly I think it is because so many Bitcoiners like to educate. Which is an amazing thing and may not last forever. The response may be in the tone of a callous old man but none the less is offered for the greater good.

If BIP-110 is a nothing burger why are so many of the suitcoiners and their proxies out hammering it? Just let it happen and see what happens. LOL They know.

@SDLerner Zero nodes are signaling against it. 15k for it. Miners will have to decide if it is economically rational to construct blocks that will not propagate over a substantial percentage of the network. This is a feature, not a bug.

I’m running BIP110 right now because following the money in crypto makes me skeptical and suspicious of a lot of people right now. I have nuanced opinions and conflicting views. So I’m supporting it but don’t fully agree with either side of the debate. I think Bitcoin will come out stronger regardless of what happens though. It always does. Not a hard liner here. I look forward to seeing healthy debate from people so we can all learn together. I always respected your views a lot over the years. Still do. Cheers Sergio.

@BTCpragmatist @BritishHodl It’s definitely a cat and mouse game, but there would be no longer be an officially sanctioned place for arbitrary data (OP_RETURN) and it closes some of the easiest places to spam introduced by taproot. It makes spamming harder and more expensive.

If you hear a Pro-BIP110 Bitcoin-er. That’s a Bitcoin communist. Simple as that. As Adam Back said, you can’t stop spam by modifying TCP/IP. These people want to be Dictator’s, they are “The Bitcoiners”, you must Bitcoin how they approve. They are not really authentic to Bitcoin’s primary message of Freedom & in their hysteria they have believed a story by a bunch of Bitcoin mental health psych ward patients. I do not believe in use-case discrimination by a bunch of communists.

@BritishHodl I generally like your takes, but you’re wrong on this one. BIP-110 is the Bitcoin immune system doing it’s job. It’s not censorship to keep Bitcoin permissionless money. My nodes, my rules.

To people against BIP 110 can you help me understand why someone running a bitcoin node should have to download 1.46 GB of data for 10,000 monkey pictures?

@Leurico8 @hodlonaut @phil_geiger It's not majority wins. Nodes have a vote but it is weighted by economic contribution. Miners keep nodes so those are high economic impact. There is strength in this approach, it defends the network against a Sybil attack.

Last week I estimated that there is less than 3,000 bitcoin supporting this initiative. I'm revising my estimation down to less than 2,000 bitcoin, and possibly less than 1,000 bitcoin (~0% of the bitcoin economy). It's vapor. None of the supporters have skin in the game. Show me the money. Renting hashrate to mine isn't skin in the game: you ultimately leave with more bitcoin and at worst miss out of mining a few blocks when BIP110 forks off and dies. Outside of reputation, what do any of the pro BIP 110 advocates have on the line? All bark and no bite.

I support BIP-110 because I believe it is important, the right thing to do, and good for Bitcoin.

@nvk @w_s_bitcoin Honestly I think the social approach strategy, rushed timeframe, and lack of factual rebuttal from BIP110 advocates killed BIP110. It feels like an attempt to create a brand, not win on the merits or for any higher truth.

I am curious to know what people gain by being anti-bip110? Is it that they are jealous of Luke? Do they want jpegs on Bitcoin? Bip110 tightens the rules that make Bitcoin money. Surely you can't be against that?

@realricky Speak for yourself I did my own research, was a bit complex catching up, but core is right, and 110 is laughably broken, has no consensus and will fail in about 3 weeks🍿then comes cypherpunk summer🌞

The ideal: every node runner judges BIP-110 on the merits alone. That's not how humans work. We're tribal creatures. In-group, out-group bias is real, even inside Bitcoin. Pretending you're above it is how it moves you.
